First time, 4x4 led grow, don’t know what led to choose

i just looked at the optic 8 and looks like they are using cob cxb3590 run at 50watt (max 137).. I think either option will work great.. your ppfd chart are a bit off because the quantum is showing to be running at 449w while hlg550 will run at 510w (mind you you can dim too). Both light will do about the same. Hlg will provide maybe a slightly more even reading than the optic 8 but that would be minimal.. both are great choice it looks like
Viceman666, I wish I had a better and more definitive answer lol. What’s your setup like?

I’ve taken a step back and redoing my research;

Kind Led; K5 XL 750 or K5 XL1000
Advanced Platinum Led; P900, P1200 or P9XLM2
Optic Led; Optic 6 or Optic 8+
HLG; 550 or 600

You can look at my grow journal im using 4x304 board samsung lm561 LED.. ordered directly from alibaba (haters gonna hate lol) but very happy so far and cost me half the price of "real" quantum boards.. they are running at about 520w (as per my killawatt) at the moment with not potentiometer. I would stay away of the kind or advanced platinum.. althought I think they used to be the top LED.. that was over 5 years ago.. recent years brought the more efficient LED (samsung lm561c) or COB for example.. im not saying they are bad lights you can grow with anything.. so maybe youre overthinking it (like I did before I bought my light lol)

Are you confortable building your lights? Im not myself but if you are look at building a setup with samsung f-strips it seems to be as good as it can get right now... once im done with my grow ill probably add a second tent and look at the strips because I really like the even spreads

Tbh I’m not comfortable with diy especially if it’s electrics even if there is a guide I would rather it were done professionally. I also need to take into consideration of where I am buying from as I would prefer a retailer in UK. I am mostly leaning towards optic 8 or 2 optic 6’s(for more spread as long as there is no over kill) in regards to hlg I am finding optics 8 to be slightly better ever so slightly but I may be wrong

Not great with electrics so would go with ether hlg 550 or 600. But thinking to buy 2 one for veg and one for flowering; 5000k for veg and 2700k for flowering or would this be silly.
No need to have a dedicated veg light in a higher CCT. Quantum Boards and COBs veg amazingly well at 3000k or 3500k. Plenty of blue light in the spectrum. Take some time to look around here on the forum - you'll see most of us veg and flower under the same spectrum. The old "blue light for veg, red light for flower" paradigm has been mostly abandoned. If you're going to run two tents, it would be far better to have the flexibility to veg or flower in either tent. I have been nothing but happy and impressed with the veg capability of my 3000k boards.

The Optic 8 looks like a solid option as long as you're not paying more for it than you would for the HLG-600. As @Viceman666 said, the Optic 6 appears to be outdated, so personally, I'd take that out of consideration. And I would definitely not spend any money on Kind or Advanced - they're inefficient and behind the times.

Build a frame and put some quantum board 132's on it....no heat sink needed....then get ready for frost !!!

I dont think anyone suggested you do that, but have fun with the fancy colours.
Sounds like a troll loll :spew::spew:
Against the recommendation of so many experienced LED growers here? Why?
I am unable to get the HLG 550 or 600 from a reputable company. Only an email is listed for UK source. Which I don’t believe to be reliable. So I need to look at the next best thing and what is available to me and has warranty. In light of this what would you guys say?

Have you guys ever heard of Enlite Sundisk?
Yeah strangely I saw them today a video on youtube.. there is no details on the LED beside the fact that they are made by phillips... overall from the stats I saw they are about 25-30% less efficient then lm561c.. i like the fact that each light is driven by its own driver and you can easily position them the way you want.. overall they seem to be better than blurple just not on par with the "new" LED imo

Went to a grow shop today. I am based in UK. They said that there are the new lights here and people in Canada are using it for medicinal growing. I showed them the HLG 550 they were interested. Will pm you a link over for more info on the Enlite seems like a good spectrum but cant tell which is better. When you say "new" led which ones are you talking about?

Products using the LM561C (Samsung strips, Quantum Boards, knock-off Quantum Boards), or COBs such as those found in the fixtures already recommended to you (Cree CXB, Bridgelux Vero, Citizen, or Luminus). Bridgelux EB Series Gen 2 are also a viable option, but I'm not aware of any pre-built fixtures using them (they're a DIY option, which I understand you're not interested in).

If you'll just limit your search to fixtures using the above, you'll clear up a lot of the confusion that plagues you.

Oh wow okay. What would you dream set up be for your 4x4?
If it was me, I would build something like this:

Oh, wait... I did build that! lol
https://www.rollitup.org/t/can-700-watts-of-led-strips-grow-trees.946736/page-16

That setup was built using very cheap Samsung strips that were removed from damaged light fixtures (Ebay) and very cheap $20 power supplies from Amazon. Total cost was around $200-250 or so (guessing). I was running those around 1000 watts and they have a capacity of around 1440 watts.

Sorry to derail, just showing what is possible if you fall in love with building your own.

Viceman666, I wish I had a better and more definitive answer lol. What’s your setup like?

I’ve taken a step back and redoing my research;

Kind Led; K5 XL 750 or K5 XL1000
Advanced Platinum Led; P900, P1200 or P9XLM2
Optic Led; Optic 6 or Optic 8+
HLG; 550 or 600
My opinion:
Optic=is a garbo bag full of false claims, low bin older parts
Kind=sucks all around
Platinum =prob the best cheap burple
HLG=legit
Amare=legit
SunCloak=legit
FluenceBio=legit
There's a few others but those 4 are my top picks in no specific order.
DIY=up to you
