seeds won't germinate properly

I'll try that taproot up myself if you say it's faster. If you use these little spongy seed starter things they might be too tight to let the seedling turn around and right itself, but I'll try it.

I have never used seed starter cubes but now that you said that I realize that is where the tap root down thing came from. :-)

I use a cup of ocean forest. And after 3-5 days I fill up the top space around the stretching seedling and bury it up to he top of the cup. The stem under the dirt will grow more roots. Better rootball and seedling support in the beginning this way. And it’s is already in the final medium it will be transplanted into.

Soak in mild bloom solution, squeeze out excess, drop seed in hole, cover hole with piece of RR, stick in drawer, and relax. No brainer.

I just started a tray of seeds in rapid rooters. Having the right plastic definitely helps.
They were sprouted in water until tails were poking out.
Once roots are established I can go with coco or soil. Still undecided...

what about hydroponics? im very interest in learning to properly set a home hydro system up for my plants. as soon as i can get past the germination issue. ordered some sour diesel seeds.

The seeds i have been using are from a friends tree he gave me a few seeds those were the ones ive been having so much trouble getting to germinate.

what's your opinion on hydroponics for first time grower?

What type of hydroponics are you considering?

deep water culture ( dwc ). i plan on using a 5 gallon bucket per plant. i want to start off with two plants and go from.

i've got the basics for it covered, just hopping it goes well.
Hydro is not for beginners.
Most newbs who start with hydro end up quitting & dump all of their gear on craigslist. (I've gotten some killer deals )
Or they put their hydro gear in storage & just use soil.
I'm serious.

thanks for tip. ill have to stick with soil until i can call my self a grower. lol

Learn to be patient with seeds, they are fragile. sometimes it will take 10 days to see them pop above the substrate if you plant them directly, disturbing the substrate in any way can easily break the tap root and end the seed.

Easiest path to success is Promix HP + mega crop*
Don't overfeed or overwater & you'll be stylin'. 8)

* - or another quality *complete* nutrient solution.
You don't have to spend a lot of money. Dyna-Gro Foliage Pro is another good one that's very affordable.
Good luck.

YES ^^^
Don't fuck with your sprouts! Unless you've got a problem with your environment, seeds will be fine if you leave them alone.
Do not help them out of their hulls. If it can't get out of the hull, the sprout is probably having root problems and will be stunted -- if it survives.

good to know it can still be damaged easily even when planted.

thanks

Don't fuck with it until it has real leaves, not cotyledons.

Plants are really awesome little machines. The root can act as a sort of battery storing energy to help the plant when something eats a part of the plant, but just like any battery, it needs time to recharge, if we keep harming the plant every day, the battery runs flat and the plant dies.

A tree standing outdoors might need some element on the tip of a new leaf at the top of the tree... for the tree to send a signal to microbes via its root exudates until the elements arrives where needed after being processed by microbes takes just 90 seconds. Put that in your pipe when your jaw is back in place.

In the begining, they are like tiny little embers that with the right care grow more and more into raging infernos with every passing day.

I'm about to try your head down suggestion on one seed in soil. I transplanted my babies to soil last week and had a total panic attack when I scoped the babies and found little spheres. Based on misinformation on RIT, I thought they were spider mite eggs and panicked and sprayed with rosemary garlic,... spray I had. Lost one baby due to that. Later found a blog on RIT showing it was not eggs dag gone it. So I'm short a plant so I going to try in soil. Conditions are really bad right now, it's colder than a you know what and dry as fuck in my basement. All my babies were growing so slow. I'm hoping to see if some of these adjustments help speed of baby grow. Since its soil I'm going to use ANC's 1tbsp H20 approach. Was that every day or every other day?

I hope head down means tap root up. :-)

And I don’t use anc’s methods. I just water a cup of potting soil to runoff and plant the taprooted seed about 1/8” in a little hole I make with an unsharpened pencil. Then lightly cover it over and wait.

With fluorescents it takes 3-5 days to dry out then I topfill around the stretchy stem and water to runoff very gently to protect the new roots and wait until very dry to water again.

Cold is bad for germination and roots. You won’t have good results sprouting seeds unless the environment is between 70 and 80 degrees. Humidity can be a problem but with good watering habits I have seen excellent results in very dry to very humid conditions.

Good luck.

Yeah the simpler the better. Throw the seeds in a glass of water, wait for tap root to start poking out and put it in soil. Unless you just have super stubborn seeds with a mind of their own. I had a couple run away that were like that
