A mysterious condition dubbed 'scromiting' hits weed smokers

across the US and causes them to vomit AND scream

'Scromiting' is becoming an all-too-familiar site at emergency rooms hospitals

The condition, called Cannabinoid Hyperemesis Syndrome (CHS), is not yet properly understood

Medical experts believe the symptoms appear from individuals

using or consuming heavy amounts of marijuana over a long period of time

Doctors note that the condition could stem from the body being over saturated

by cannabinoids, affecting the hypothalamus

Chronic cannabis users are at risk of experiencing a horrifying new condition that is being reported at hospitals

across the United States where marijuana is legal.

'Scromiting,' doctors say, is becoming an all-too-familiar site at emergency rooms

, with patients 'screaming and vomiting' as they turn up for help.

The condition, called Cannabinoid Hyperemesis Syndrome (CHS), is not properly understood

but medical experts believe the symptoms appear from individuals using

or consuming heavy amounts of marijuana over a long period of time.

'Scromiting' is becoming an all-too-familiar site at emergency rooms hospitals across the country

'I've screamed out for death,' Chalfonte LeNee Queen, 48, told NPR after experiencing the terrifying illness.

'I've cried out for my mom, who's been dead for 20 years, mentally not realizing she can't come to me.'

Little research has been conducted on the topic, but one study found that for scromiting to occur,

cannabis users would have to consume marijuana three to five times per day to develop CHS.

Doctors note that the condition could stem from the body being over saturated by cannabinoids,

affecting the hypothalamus.

'In one study the average duration of cannabis use prior to onset of recurrent vomiting was... 3.4 years,'

the National Center for Biotechnology Information report added.

‘The syndrome was first described in 2004 by Allen and colleagues and is characterized by chronic cannabis

use, cyclic episodes of nausea and vomiting, and the learned behavior of hot bathing,’ doctors wrote.

Medical experts note that the condition could stem from the body being over saturated by cannabinoids -

chemical compounds that acts on cannabinoid receptors located in the brain.

The build up of the cannabinoids, doctors believe, affect the function of the hypothalamus,

which regulates digestion and body temperature.

According to the NCBI: ‘Often mistakenly called Cyclical Vomiting Syndrome,

Cannabinoid Hyperemesis Syndrome is a rare form of cannabinoid toxicity that develops in chronic smokers.'

‘It’s characterized by cyclic episodes of debilitating nausea and vomiting.

People who suffer from the syndrome often find that hot showers relieve their symptoms,

and will compulsively bathe during episodes of nausea and vomiting.

Symptoms stop after cessation of cannabis use.’

Medical experts believe the symptoms appear from individuals

using or consuming heavy amounts of marijuana over a long period of time.

Its more "Reefer Madness" bullshit. The article I read said its "very rare" then in the next sentence the same doctor says "he sees it at least once a day".
I think if anything its from people smoking concentrates with neem oil, sm90, and 100 other chemicals assholes just pour onto their plants with total disregard for who has to smoke that nasty shit......but lets blame it on the cannabinoids that people have been smoking for ages with no issue up till now.

Daily Mail (UK) Hmmmm.... must be true with no hyper sensational prose used at all ....sarc!
It's actually real. My cousin gets it if he smokes too much. For days he'll throw up like he has the stomach flu and shower for hours on end while yelling. He was in and out of the hospital constantly for a year and half before they figured out what the deal was. He said it's like being dizzy with a lot of weight on his chest making him feel like he's going to pass out all while throwing up.
He would be sick like that for a couple weeks in a row every month. Every time he went to the ER they had to give him an iv because he was low on potassium, iron, and all sorts of shit from throwing up.

Two things I would add is that no one should ever excessively consume anything right? and especially if you are not in control of all the ingredients. Its like the doctor asking his/her alcoholic patient this, "would you consume 12 cans of string beans every day?" hell no! The other issue is related to what was mentioned above about neem oil who knows wtf people add in or to the weed/oil/ whatever.

Sensitivity I can see, but for a Dr. to say they see it at least once a day in the E.R. I call bullshit on "Scromiting" being from cannabis alone. Its something too new for something thats been around far too long to just now be seeing ills associated with it. I've been smoking for a long time with alot of folks who have been smoking a lot longer than I have, and not one person has heard of this. If this is a new thing, its gotta be because of chemicals some people use on their gardens not realizing the poisons they are spraying and ingesting, and allowing others (unknowingly) to ingest/smoke/vape etc as well is making them sick. Folks dont know about half lifes and how long these poisons are in the flowers they grow and the concentrates they make from these poisoned flowers. Chemical compounds change when they get burned and can become very toxic and poisonous when smoked. I know first hand my AFIB goes bonkers if I smoke any kind of BHO or anything besides Ice water bubble hash due to chemicals that remain in the hash. Im sensitive to the chemicals, not the hash itself.

Lol you guys playing Dr. don't know what the fuck you're talking about. I didn't say anything about him smoking poison or taking Ativan. Where did that shit come from? He doesn't spray his plants or take Ativan. Look, the condition is real and he controls it by not smoking 15-20 joints a day like he was. It doesn't matter if you know of anyone that has heard of it or not. I'm sure there's plenty of things you and your stoner friends have never heard of. That's a dumb argument. I never heard of it either before it happened to my cousin.

sounds like the story of every anti weed politician in the making...
sicker they get from weed the more convincing they are at the ballots

Unfortunately, I'm sure the politicians will use the condition as ammo against cannabis once they hear about it. The docs told my cousin that his body isn't processing and storing cannabinoids like a normal person would, so it builds up to toxic levels in his system. As long as he doesn't smoke a retarded amount of weed everyday, he's fine. Unlike some in this thread, I've seen it with my own eyes and drove him to the ER more than a few times. It's real and it's not propaganda. I also saw him reduce the amount of joints smoked and the symptoms went away.
