Functional illiteracy in America

Is funding and participation in "their system" on an individual voluntary basis or is it compulsory?
What happens if someone in your perfect society totally opted out? They'd be a permanent burden on everyone else.

Your Utopia is not only impossible, it's undesirable.

There is no perfect society, and you failed to answer my question directly.

So, you are afraid to admit that Finland uses threats of offensive force (just like the USA) to fund their "education" system or force is not a feature of the Finnish system ? Which is it?

You just don't like my answer because it shitcans your whole argument in one fell swoop.

I've lived in third world countries. I know what taxes buy.

Listening to a BBC Radio program with the first female US Librarian of the Congress and a woman who built a small library in Johannesburg, SA.

The US Librarian said that 38% of the residents of Baltimore, MD are functionally illiterate.

I'm shocked. Is anyone else?

I'm dismayed and disgusted. Is anyone else?

Are we creating a third world country right here in America?

Discuss.
Of course we have a 3rd world section in this country.

The racial divide in Baltimore is drastic, like it is 63.3 % Black, 27% White and the rest a mix of Hispanics, Asians and Native Americans.

I just wonder if the illiteracy rate is a carryover from the segregation in the South historically, whereas if you were an African American in Maryland up until 1965, your school probably sucked (if you had one), and your Grandma never learned to read because she was a slave, so could never teach her daughter, your mother, to read anything at all.

And so the story continues to go on. and it will continue to do so as long as there is no true balance in educational opportunities offered.

My wife is a 4th grade teacher in the largest city in CT, where over 90% of her students are either Hispanic or Black in a primarily low income area, and their parents can't hardly read and write, because they got fucked when they were kids by having no books, pencils or paper in their sad excuses for classrooms.

This country fucked 99% of it's citizens of color, and then scratches it's head when confronted with data showing that we, the White man, through segregation and inequality in opportunity, caused all these problems in the 1st fucking place.

I think we've reached the point of a total lack of educational balance.

This whole situation is so far outside my experience I had trouble wrapping my head around it.

Appreciate the insight, thanks.

It was too good to pass up.

London's alright for a guy whose wife wears the pants in the family.
All men don't find it necessary to beat or fight their wife. I guess that's your thing but I treat mine like the queen she is. I bet you would slap your wife for not having dinner ready. I would just make dinner myself or take her out to eat. Give your wife a break sometime Sasquatch

I'm a lucky man and treat her the way she deserves to be treated. We like to go out for Thai food, been digging the hot red curry lately.

Rarely any discord in our house. She's a peaceful person and sometimes refers to her core philosophy as being akin to ahimsa. Sorry if that surprises you slugger.
