Allergy like symptoms while trimming

I thought something was wrong with my plants because my allergies were horrible during trimming. I had to wear a dust mask which helped out a lot but was annoying as hell. Good to hear this is normal. Wonder why cured weed doesn’t give me allergies?

again, just supposition on my part, but i'd guess that what you're having a reaction to is some of the more volatile substances in the plant, more than likely some of the terpenes that make them smell. i'd be interested if anyone has noticed that its lemony smelling weed that does this, or floral smelling...or w/e, wonder if its a particular substance that everyone reacts to or if there are different things that effect different people?

My buddy who was effected by a certain strain so bad, his wife could trim the same strain with no problems.

Who else gets allergy like symptoms when trimming? I heard its quite common.

Been like this ever since I started 6 years ago. Doesnt seem like its gotten worse, but maybe it has a little.

I get a wicked bad runny nose and congestion. If im sweating and a bud touches my skin it gets red and itchy and raised a little.

Thinking of investing in one of those 3M respirator things.[/QU
I also have issues with this. If the respirator works please update us, Damn I don;t like dabs because I feel like I am smoking crack soon I will be in a tyvek suit wearing goggles and an air pack that just looks so bad....

I have a couple of my own crosses with lots of lemon/fruit terps and they don't bother me at all. I think it's dependent on the person, just like other allergies. I agree that any reactions are more likely to come from terpenes than anything else in the plant. Your is probably a reaction/allergy to limonene.

Anyone notice dry air causing worse allergies?

Its so bad right now. Been smelling this metallic smell and finally realized its blood in my nose causing it. Been sneezing and blowing my nose so much ive caused tiny cuts. Doesnt help its like 0 degrees and 10% RH.

Reason I say dry air is because only dry patches on my skin are affected. Like my knuckles are red from trimming just now and its only red where its dry. Or if I have a scrape on my arm ill get an allergic reaction if bud touches it.

Kinda weird that its only affecting certain spots of my skin and this is the best reason I can come up with.

Probably also why its affecting my nose so much

i think most of us get it pretty bad. take an allergy pill and keep on chugging away lol
Recently I've been noticing veg is doing it to me as well. I've been tying branches down on recently flipped plants and get a red skin issue. It's not raised or itchy. Perhaps it's the trichomes that aren't visible yet or hairs irritating my dry skin?

My buddy was just helping me trim about 8 pounds, so we were at it for awhile, and he was having pretty bad allergy symptoms. I was actually ok, even though I can get bad allergies from whatever it is outdoors (never pin pointed it). I forgot that I had a hepa air purifier sitting about 10 feet from us. It's supposed to be for a whole room, but it's pretty tiny. I doubt it'll help with the room with that much bud, but I'm thinking of he just kept it right by him with the filtered air right by his face, it could help. He'll be back in about 2 months to help with the next batch, and I'll have to break it out then to see if it helps.

I think ive made myself alergic all the years from over exposure from smoking it lol

Like my dad was allegic to fresh peaches but could eat canned?

I know it makes me itch in veg and can hive me up in bud lol

I've often wondered about this?! Kinda glad to hear it's not just me that's allergic..! Sometimes I take Benadryl before I start

I get this too, and I think the dryer both the plant material and the air are, the worse it is.

When the plant is more dry, more particles fly around the air with every cut, so more end up in your nose/mouth/eyes. The dry air also dries out your mucas membranes which would otherwise help. I wear one of those face masks for long trimming sessions and it helps a lot. Taking an antihistamine before can help too. Personally Benadryl fucks me up too much, I prefer Zyrtek.

Mine get so bad, I wear long gloves, a respirator mask. I pop an a allegra and use flonase too. If I didn't I would be miserable. The drier the material the worst too.
