Recommend air pump

So I have the main stuff purchased however it’s the small details holding me up like this air pump decision.

I am looking for a stealthy yet powerful enough pump to run 3-4 max 5 gallon buckets possibly 2 18 gallons instead with pricing under $100.

Air pumps are pretty noisy. You should look into a venturi or a waterfall setup depending on your res temps as these will raise temps due to mechanical energy(friction) inside a res.

The one listed by cat is noisy. General hydroponics dual diaphragm is quiet yet powerful for 4 5 gal buckets

The past couple months of researching parts has led me to the hydro farm as well. Might just have to take a deeper look based on recommendations as well.

Thanks guys

Ive thought about taking the leap and buying 2 GH diagpraghm pumps for my 8 5gAL rdwc setup. are they really THAT much quieter than the commercial style pumps we all use?

So still reading about pumps and making sure I got the correct one. If I decide to run 3-4 5 gallon buckets or 3 14 gallon totes is just one enough?
I keep hearing 1 watt a gallon if that’s the case I’ll need a few correct me if I’m wrong since it’s 8 watts?

I just got an 8 - outlet ECOAIR5 Commercial pump for just over $100Can at a hydro store in BC and they make smaller ones that ought to be well under a hundred. They use a magnetically driven piston rather than rubber diaphragms and should last for years. I don't need it for my grow atm so have it hooked up to my air line that goes underground to my dugout and it's churning up the water out there at 1300gph. Not super quiet tho but noise isn't an issue for me. Not a lot louder than any of my dual outlet aquarium pumps I've been using for years tho.

Thing for me is I really need quiet. I decided I’m going 2 27 gallon totes each under 260 hlg kit. Might get another one for other tote to be safe guess I need to just hook it up and see first problem is don’t plan on starting yet.

The GH dual diaphragm that I suggested is 20w. It handles (4)12 gal totes fine. The 12 gal totes only fit 6 gal each with 6" hydrofarm lids. So 24gal. It works for me.

*EDIT* ive had two running for almost 5 years and its still going fine

the pump can be placed in a bucket wrapped and filled with fiberglass insulation. run a hose for intake and another for the manifold. can't hear it from a few feet away

keep the diaphragms oiled/lubed and they last a decade or more.

at a minimum. my stones make the water appear to be boiling. keeps roots agitated and away from the drain

WhAt air stones did you decide to go with? I’m looking into getting some now either for the 4 -12 gallon setup like yours or 4 - 5 gallons. I have kept thinking of buying another air pump to be safe however if you don’t feel that’s nessary for the 12 gallon tubs running just one pump to four than I’ll save the money.

i use two of these in each 27g tub, 5 tubs rdwc... one pump runs all ten stones...
