Why all the arguments over LED vs HPS ?

All the blurple statements, shady comparisons and ongoing arguments.
Is it over money ? Why is HPS being shoved down people's throats who show interest in LED/COB ? What's so wrong with LED????? I see absolutely nothing.
People have preferences and like to argue why one is better then the other. I used to use HPS and now use COBs. They both grow plants well. That's what I know.

I understand that but.... if the person is looking into purchasing led/cob and asks about suggested lighting all hell breaks loose. I'm just saying if I had my eye on LED /COB why are people running HPS so negative? When most of them never even ran those lights. Seems like LED/COBS are less hassle & more affordable in the long run.

I now have my eyes on
Advanced Led
Duo lux 600 ( top shelf lights)
Tasty Led
Unless something better presents itself. I have no interest in HPS though
Yes, it's a matter of cost.
Purely from a financial stand point, HPS is the only rational choice.
if you want a robust setup that's easy, cheap, and proven- that's why people recommend HPS.
People can believe what they want to believe. I looked long and hard at all the publicly available evidence that is and my conclustion is that there isn't a *significant* difference in quality between the two.

I myself prefer LEDs, and I'm willing to pay the premium for it, but I'm aware and I accept that HPS would have been a smarter choice.
When you look over a period of several years, DIY COB kits start to catch up, but off the shelf products are mostly a ripoff.

As for your question why hell breaks loose, that's because many users here let their ego take over and turn threads into an ad-hominem filled pissing contests rather than a civilized discussion.

I spent 300$ for 2 300w leds . They did awesome during veg , but I'm not impressed with the flowering. I now realize I must invest more like ( 900$-1200$) to get my desired results. I ask around but it's always the same thing " leds suck blah, blah ,blah" use HPS but the only valid reason I see is because it's cheap. I can't diy ( my diy scrog took me 4ever) so I know I can't build a light. This shouldn't be a argument when the person asking knows what they want , just not sure which company they should go with.

I'm not so sure. Most people think they know what is good for them, and science has proven many times over that this is in fact false for most aspects of life (finance, health, happiness, dating etc.).
I guess most people are trying to help those who fall for the marketing bullshit LED companies use to rob clueless newbies.

But I do agree with you that if you walk into this purchase informed and aware, then telling you what you already know is definitely unhelpful and annoying.

Which type of LEDS are you using? If you don't mind sharing.

it's because led users, after becoming so invested in their lights, take on a "our shit don't stink" attitude and come up with all kinds of BS claims about LED being superior to tried and true HPS and then us HPS users set them straight and they go on a tantrum because they know it's true, yet their investment is so deep, it just can't be so,lol

Well actually alot of it has to do with the history of LED. When blurples were the newest led tech alot of sellers decieved people with shady claims and false math. They were inferior but managed to convince many people they were better and suckered many into wasted money. The tech has advanced and current LED is very very good but there is still the diehard resentment over it all of how many were duped in the past. Anyone like dr nick there is one of those people who refuse to look at the evidence. Led can grow plants just as good as hps but its not for everyone.

Generally LED has a higher upfront investment but lower costs to run them as they are more efficient. This leads to a lower electricity bill, no bulbs to replace and most importantly to many, a MUCH lower heat output. So over the long term LED is a more cost efficient choice if you are willing to make that investment.

I'm willing to spend 900-1200$ . The other 2 lights, I plan to use for vegging next run. My research has lead me to believe what you say is true. I just failed to invest properly the first purchase and spending around 1000$ this time...... I want to get the right LED.

I use Chinese Mars clones (I got them used for next to nothing) for veg, and DIY COB for flower, so it doesn't help you.

Actually in your place I would try to get a friend who is good with their hands to help you with a DIY COB kit, although then it technically becomes a DIWF COB kit
;)
I'll be better off buying one. We're not into diy stuff.

Why can't they both be good ? Just personal preference.

Why are you so caught up with what other people are Doing? People do and say whatever they want, best to not give a fuck about it.
