New DIY LED light

Finished up my new light and hung it up tonight. It consists of ten Samsung Acuity hard strips, 56 LEDs in double rows on 22" x 3/4" strip boards. I mounted two strips to a 48" long 3/4" aluminum U-channel, for a total of five light bars. Framed them together with 3/4 aluminum angle, for an 18" x 48" light. Powered by a 24 Vdc 15 Amp power supply. currently running at 1 amp per strip for 240W total.

keep in mind they are probably 120 lm at xx current, which i bet in nf higgs case is a lot lower.

id be surprised if he wasnt north of 150-160 lm/W with that setup
I've not been able to come up with much data on these, so I don't know what they are rated at. I'm running them at 1 amp per strip currently. 24W per strip seemed reasonable. I plan to get a second set, and reduce the current to 600-700 mA per strip to increase efficiency. I really need to get a light meter to see where I'm at with these....

Great looking fixture! Are these the double-row F series strips, or Samsung diodes on a generic PCB? I've been eyeing those F strips, but can't find them in stock anywhere.

No, these are salvage pulls from Samsung "Acuity" brand troffer lights. Pulled from new lights that were damaged in shipping. I wish they were the F series strips.... Those are the efficiency kings.

But at 2 bucks a pop, they are definitely worth using.

Buy two sets of these:

Buy two 24 V 10 amp power supplies:

Mount all twenty strips to a sheet of 44" x 20" 1/8 aluminum sheet, using arctic silver thermal adhesive:

Each power supply will run ten strips. No soldering needed, the strips have plug in terminals so all you need is some wire.

A local machine shop can cut you a sheet of aluminum to size.

400W LED light for about 100 bucks."

not to flog a dead horse here nfhiggs, but links may be helpful.
Big Green Thumb pulled it up for me - Thanks Bro!

You could also use heatsink stock from Heatsink USA. The .601 would probably be good for 20-25W per stick (1 amp), and the 1" would be good for maybe 1.5 amps
