I can't take sleeping pills to get to sleep. I either have to take double the recommended adult dosage to feel them kicking in. Or they don't work.

And the ones that do work at recommended dosage. Either make me wake up essentially feeling hung over. Or I flip out pretty much the moment I'm awake.

There's only two things that seem to work. Pot. And alcohol. And I'm not too keen on becoming an alcoholic.

Never tried it.
You might give it a go - it was recommended to me by my VA doc because as I found out, screwed up sleep patterns are relatively common in many vets & to be honest it helps calm me down so I can rest.
Also it's an over the counter and mimics a naturally occurring hormone produced by the brain.

I'm most definitely not a vet of any kind. But, I do have adhd. And have pretty much always been a night person. But having to conform to day time schedules. I used to operate on about 5 hours of sleep.

Long story short, it is used for a myriad of sleep disorders and it might help you.
On the + you don't need a scrip, it has very little side effects and dosn't cost much.
I take the 5mg once nightly if I feel I need it & get a really restful sleep without the "hangover".
