20 lbs of co2 in13 days??

hi i bought this hydrofarm co2 regulator off ebay, used and got my first 29 lb tank of co2 on may 29 and hooked it up the 30th,... and its gone!!!
its in a 2x3ft closte and it was hooked up to the 12/12 timer and i had the regulator pressured up to about 28 lbs and the bubble counter as low as i could crack it open, like 1/2, not even up to the first mark on the counter
is this normal??? at 1/2 cubic foot per hour,.. or do you think i got a bad regulator and its leaking??
the guy at the hydro shop told me it should last about a month when i took it in for him to show me how it worked

well i got no reply so here is what i found on the web,...

• A single 75 watt bulb burning for two hours a day generates an average of six pounds, or six big balloons, of carbon dioxide a month.

• You produce 1/2 lb (pound) of carbon dioxide when you watch television for an hour. You put 20 lbs. (pounds) of carbon dioxide in the air when you burn 1 gallon of gasoline in your car.

• One pound of carbon dioxide gas has the volume of 8.2 cubic feet. You could store two pounds of carbon dioxide in the average kitchen refrigerator.

• A one-pound CO2 balloon would be about 2.5 feet wide. Forty-seven such balloons would fill up your living room—every day.

so a 20 lb tank of co2 is 164 cubic feet,... if the regulator is set at .5 cub ft hour and on the 12/12 timer you will use 6 cubic feet a day or 20 lb tank will last 27.33 days ( i think i got a defective regulator thats leaking)

how would you know that? what of leaks in the room? and plant consumption?
Neither of those conditions will use more gas. The regulator controls how much gas leaves the tank no matter what the conditions. Either the regulator is faulty or there is a leak between the tank and the regulator or in the regulator itself. Some soapy water in a spray bottle finds leaks easy enough.

From everything the OP has written he's not using a ppm controller but just a regulator on a timer so just releasing a set amount of gas at a steady rate for a set amount of time.

I believe the gas would not last as long with a room full of plants, doors open, window broke etc?

I didn't even notice the date on the first post. :D

As long as the regulator is set to a certain flow rate it could be outside and the gas will be released at the same constant rate until the tank is empty. That's what regulators do. With a CO2 controller that releases gas on demand then the amount of gas released would be affected by the ppm it was set to detect and then plant numbers or room leaks would certainly change the length of time that tank would last.

yep, know that
specifically though, one would not be able to tell how long that tank would last keeping a constant ppm in a room, without knowing how much is being wasted and used up aye?

He has no idea the ppm in the room. It's calculated before hand and released simply based on time interval, nothing else.
