How long can you store quality bud for?

Best way to preserve? If vacuum sealed twice and kept in a dark place how long, about a year? What if kept cool, such as vacuum sealed 3-4 times then burried 8-12" under ground to keep a steady temperature?

Will untrimmed vs trimmed make a difference in shelf life?

Seal the jars

Store it in a cool (~40 degreeF), dark place

Don't open the jars and let oxygen in!

Should be good for at least a year!

Thanks dude. Ive got curing down pat and have used the jar method (with a vacuum sealer) for a long time for what I'm currently smoking on.. but for larger harvest is more what I was asking which is why I asked about triple-quadrupole vacuum sealing then burrying underground to keep at steady temps in a dark place. Even if your only allowed the standard 6 plants and grow them outdoors and hit 10 LBS each that's 60 pounds. Would cost way to much in jars and who has enough fridge room to vacuum seal all that in bags then store somewhere cool such as a fridge for example.

Had a friend that after drying and curing he would put all his bud in jars and into a cooler. We dug a hole put the cooler in the hole and kept his bud in the ground for months taking a jar when he needed and filling the cooler when he cropped out again. It's in New England, many times we had to shovel snow off the area to get at his cooler. Never had an issue with mold, humidity etc.

Man I wouldn't know what to do with 60 pounds of weed. It would be illegal for me to resell it, so that's not an option. It would take me the rest of my life to use 60 pounds of weed, so that's not an option. I'd probably make most of it into bubble hash...then I'd press that and make rosin and then it would stand a much better chance against degradation and take up much less space. -my 2 cents...Good luck to you!

I toss my old weed at 2 years when it oxidizes too much (I don't vacuum seal). You would definitely be able to store longer than a year in very good shape if you vacuumed it and buried it, probably several years or more based on what I've seen from others.

I use a buried hard box for storing rum at my greenhouse. It isn't covered with dirt, just dug a foot or so into the ground. Keeps everything at mid 50s in the heat of summer.

That's awesome man I love it thank you so much for the response, really appreciate you taking the time to help out based on experience/What you've seen! Reassuring to hear that. Don't think the rain/moisture or anything could get to it if vacuum sealed enough? Would hate for it to get ruined over time :/.

Love the burried run in the greenhouse sounds nice, we had to burry a cooler to keep food cold In the summer before we had a fridge lol.

Wow, that's an awful lot of work...but hey...whatever works right?

I keep it pretty simple...trim...dry a couple days on a rack...dry a couple more in paper bags...then into mason jars with 2 Boveda 62 packs...so far I've kept a couple for 18 months. I just keep them in a box in the garage out of the light. I like the popping sound the jar makes after being sealed for several months..and the smell is out of this world. My point is sometimes i think we tend to over thing stuff sometimes...at least I do....

I'm assuming you'll have some kind of hard case around them so digging it up doesn't puncture the bags. Can't say I know how well vacuum seal bags hold up if kept in water. My cases have the lids above ground so water can't get in. You can get dry cases but for 60lbs it could get expensive. The ones I'm thinking of are for burying guns so maybe there are less expensive options? Probably still a lot cheaper than running an extra fridge for years!

Be tough storing that much for later use. I can't see storing it longer than 2 years without a freezer.
Here is an experiment from 2015 I tested. GSC dried and cured in jars at %58 humidity for 2 months. Then vacuum sealed and labeled. One went in my gun safe, dark and app 68 degrees. The other in the deep freeze in the garage constant -10. Opened up both jars recently, jar from the freezer came out looking like it did when I put it in. Jar from my closet came out a bit darker in color with a deeper aroma.
Jar from the closet was hands down better in potency and flavor than the freezer jar...maturing as it cured.
I had some Blackberry kush a few grows back that didn't have a chance to reach full maturity and wasn't that potent.
I vac sealed it and stored some away in the closet. Didn't even open them up for 2 years. Smelled very metallic..like 70s brick weed, still didn't want to smoke it. Give some to a buddy, he gives me a call and says he can't believe it is the BBK. I grabbed some and took a couple big bong hits....Holy Shit WTF happened. Got seriously fuck up and suprised by the outcome though it tasted like shit brickweed.

Good point, I really was hoping the vacuum bags would be enough if triple sealed, but that would really suck if moisture got in or a rock/something punctured a hole in them. I have Rubbermaid totes I could burry, which is cheap & I would imagine would still keep it cool enough to preserve it?, but at the same time would be nice to be able to burry them 100% too for more of uh... security reasons. Damn theives out there :cuss:why can't we have more trustworthy people in the world?!
What's the name of the cases you were thinking of?

Awe man, I don't remember. But there is a category of bins designed for underground dry storage and it ain't Rubbermaid! Maybe search for "dry cases"?

You can probably cobble something, just make it strong!

I wana see the 10 pounders spoke about above ......I can't speak about storing it for long periods at a time .....mine doesn't last long enough to have to be stored long term in my situation ......I just do very tiny plants as most of you know .......:bigjoint:

You could always try a nitrogen purge before sealing them. Oxygen is what degrades most organic matter over time; besides, mold won't grow in a nitrogen environment.
