Fogger clone system

I switched my DWC bubble clone unit over to a fogger system.......The rapid rooter plugs seem very hard to find a happy-medium with. While clones were in the jiffy greenhouse they seemed either dry or soggy it was hard to keep them just moist especially using a seedling heat mat. I put them in the little bubbleponics clone tub that I had made but had the same soggy effect.

Yesterday I pulled out the airstone and put in a fogger that I had bought awhile back at wal-mart ($25). It has seemed to make somewhat of an improvement with some of the clones. Overnight root growth took off for several of them, others have done nothing still. The clones are still green, I'm hoping I can salvage a few more of them.

The fogger seems to keep a warm haze which I think would be perfect for the clones. Next time I will place fresh cuts into the unit and see how things go. Here are a couple pics of the fogger system.

Well if u got a big enough fogger, you prolly could get plants pretty big with it cause even with the fogger u can run Nutes through it. so u get Nutrient Fog.

My thought was to originally completely root clones in this......10 gallon rubbermaid tub with twenty-four 1" or 1-1/8" holes cut to accept rapid rooters...I thought after they rooted I would remove and place in net pots in dwc. I just haven't made it through all the steps yet. I cut some new clones today and put them in the fog system to see how they do.

wrong!

fully mature plants dont do well in fogger systems as the roots become so damn dense the fog cannot pentrate the rootball/zone.

also....foggers in the res arent very effective unless you run little to no nutes as the salinity of nutes will crust and erode the ceramic diffusers/disc
if you want to try and run a plant system that grows fully mature plants, i suggest you buy an external fogger and rig up a fan so the fog can move.

a word to the wise.....foggers are really good for clones, for full mature plants.....not so much.

you should also use nutramist's foggers as regular foggers dont have teflon coated ultrasonic transducers like the Nutramist brand. they are specifically designed for use with dissolved nutrient solutions, so they help prevent salt buildup which causes premature failure.

Saw a fogger cloner on e-bay a little while ago, looked pretty much the same except it used those neoprene collars.. The guy said he was blowing roots in three days, but who knows? I got an Ez-clone 60, but i havent tried it out yet. Good Luck!

You'll have to try it and keep me updated, I've thought about buying a cloner but thought I'd make one first to see how it worked out. I figured it it failed or I got frustrated, I'd probably buy one. lol

Well I put three cuttings in there Saturday, i'll let you know what happens. I was gonna attempt building one myself, but i work enough at my legit job if you know what i mean. bongsmilie

Well, checking today, some of the clones that had really shot out some of the good 1st fuzzy roots are kinda drying out now. I'm not sure if the temps from the fogger are making it a little to warm in the tub or what is going on for sure.....it just doesn't seem overly humid inside the tub like I would think it would be. There is fog filling the system to the top but my rapid rooters are still drying ouy too. Maybe I'll revert back to the bubbler tomorrow?

Oh,....lol. I didn't know that you couldn't run it constantly. Things would definately dry out I would think If it were not running constantly.

So would "On" an hour "Off" an hour kinda thing work?

you can run the fogger full term you just have to incorporate a drip system or dwc. I am attempting this myself. and the results are impressive

The $30 Nutramist fogger is kinda hard to find, but here's one place . So now I have a question: Wouldn't this be a great way to control humidity in a tent or small grow closet? I have an Arduino microcomputer monitoring and reporting humidity and temp - it could easily turn the fogger on & off to increase RH. Does anybody do this? Or is it usually an issue of reducing RH?
