@LighterfighterI can't say anything but the Mars lights work better than what some people say. But the DIY panel will be way better especially with more efficiency and lower heat. I just dimmed my lights from 413 watts to 186 watts. Meanwell HLG-185HC-700A and I just ordered 14 more drivers from Sager for $54 each

that sounds like some serious scaling up. lol You dimmed your mars or your new light? The mars is totally okay with veg and start of flower, but I am counting on those Diy for some girth. I scroged this time and am truely giving my mars a chance. Ill snap one for you tmrw. the screen is full a week in and I got it 3x3 full. Youll see.

My new lights. Sorry I'm gone from the weed I grew with the Mars II lights. I yielded 1136 grams

I was figuring ambient of 26.1C (79F) with a temperature increase of 8.22C for the 4.6" profile to arrive at 34.7C. I am curious what SupraSPL's ambient temp is for the 28C heatsink recommendation?
Thought we should mention that these are worst case numbers for passive sinks. You should have fans blowing across your canopy no matter the lighting choices. So any air that can be moved across these units will quickly remove heat from the sink. Call it semi-passive if you will with a worst case of full passive if your canopy fans fail.

First of all, I want to thank you guys for all the knowledge you are sharing with us! Big respect!!

My question is what kind of external dimmer do I need for the Mean Well HLG-185H-C700B, are there some budget options?

Sure, you need simple linear 100kΩ potentiometer. These can be bought virtually everywhere, starting at less than $1. The more precise ones (5% and less) shouldn't be more than $5-$10.

So what driver did you end up using? I am looking deeply into this, searching and reading. It's hard to compile all the info.

Good thread! Keep it up!

Order everything off Jerry - Kingbright. He has everything... Leds, Lens, Holders & MW-drivers
I am from Germany there is no supply so far.
Thanks I had to order it through farnell they only have US Stock and charge me
30$ extra total for 8 is 80$ not nice.

I allways try to use the stuff in my garage
so I use an old insulation transformer bridge rectifier e condenser
an an simply constant current source to power them.
I also have old intel core coolers with fan

do you think each of them could handle the max 50 watts disipation?

diameter is 80 mm
