First True Living Organics Grow

Just finished reading True Living Organics by the Rev and realize a lot of what I thought I knew about growing pot is wrong. In the past I have always used chelated synthetic nutrients and straight water from the tap with varying degrees of success. I had already started plants in vegging in FFOF soil with added perlite when I was inspired to go TLO but had not yet used any nutes so decided to try to stay organic for this grow. Began with a regiment of dechlorinating my tap water which I now believe is not a pure enough source. My plants always seem to get that paper texture on the leaves which I now believe is due to too much dissolved salts -aka hard water. Does this sound right?

Anyways I added a top dressing of seabird guano for veg phase & then mulched with a layer of coir. I plan to use a high P top dressing when my soil amendments & fertilizers I just ordered arrive for flower phase which I plan to flip in a few weeks. Hey thanx for commenting! Was about to leave this thread for dead...I love growing with TLO and that book sure was a revelation for me!
Found out my tap water is not as good as I thought it was so just got a new RO unit that hooks to a garden hose- problem is it came with a fitting for a pipe thread- had to order an adapter for it. I know my system uses chloramine which always kills the life in my soil which is why I needed this upgrade.
In other news my plants are literally exploding from the seabird guano top dressing. Vigorous growth & now it looks they are almost big enough to flip which I plan to do next week. In the meantime I have put together a flower power top dressing I will use in conjunction with an organic spike for bloom phase:
Used equal parts- 4 tblsp each of
Blood meal
Alfalfa meal
Happy frog 5-5-5
Greensand
Feather meal
Mixed that up with worm castings & coco coir- it's all cooking in a tub now & will be applied about 15 days into flowering. Here's a fresh pic thanx again for stopping by

I have been giving them worm tea weekly but have yet to try & brew up a tea myself. I plan to give a TLO tea brewed with guano, 1-1-1 liquid fish fertilizer & big bloom next week but I'm waiting until a fitting for my RO unit to come in. I know that my tap water is laden with chloramine that'll kill all the micro beasties so guess I gotta wait til my hose adapter arrives. Apparently the RO unit is threaded for a pipe instead of a garden hose; fix one problem & create another one- ain't that how it always goes lol

Wait til your plant & root system is nicely established & then a high N too dressing will seriously kick up the growth rate. I've always had some purpling stems in veg using nutes but these stems are are a nice deep green and thick af very fat & juicy bursting with energy

nice thanks for the tip. i can see your plants are doing better than great haha, very good job man. im going to start with a little thin layer of chicken manure that i have, make some chicken manure/ewc teas for veg like jorge cervantes! ill get more creative with my teas for flower.

I don't know if it's the lighting in your pics, but your plants look a purplish color. Never seen those colors in veg plants, not till late flowering usually. Other than that your plants look great, good job. Also welcome to the world of organics, if you manage to pull off a TLO grow you will never look back. Once you harvest and get to try the finished product you will be blown away by the aroma and flavor.

It's the blurple hue of assorted cheapo Chinese LEDs mixed with a 600w mh that gives the weird lighting. There is a 300w panel and 2 185w UFOs that pretty work well for supplemental during flowering so I figured why not fire all the guns during veg. Thanks for all the positivity- feeling so awesome about this grow so far.
Plants are happy but did manage to burn one at the tips with the guano- I think I hit the roots with it directly as I ran low on soil & it was the last pot during transplanting to 10g pots. Thicker layering next time, maybe?
Brewing of my first TLO tea is underway - a 2 day flower tea from revs book. My plants have about achieved sea of green status so they will be flipped tomorrow. Should I apply my top dressing now or wait 2 weeks into flowering?

Grow looking very good I would top dress 2 weeks into flowering just because the plants are putting that energy into starting to flower but other then that they look great keep em green!!! JabJab

Well fuck it just couldn't wait any longer -my top dressing was growing some kind of fungus on top in the bin it was in so figured it would better to put it on the plants now rather than wait- put canna compost on top of that. Next time I wont cook my top dressing mix it was unecessary imo. This canna compost is great- was planning on using just plain bark mulch but the canna compost is so much richer and full of life. Gave them the 48 hour flower tea and some worm tea so that should carry these plants well into flower- ill update pics when theres some buds growing

Found out I have some friends in my grow room- and some purple striping on most of the stems as you can see in the pic; other than that they look very healthy. The plants are transitioning to flower phase; they were flipped 5 days ago- a few early white pistils have already emerged here and there & they are preflowering. Not sure if I should do something about the purple stripes or not... Should I give my plants another shot of high P tea? Or should I wait & see how the top dressing I just laid on them plays out?

You could go without a couple things here, also feather meal has arsenic in it (sucks because a slow release nitrogen input like that is AWESOME)
The greensand isn't soluble and doesn't do much for yrs.
the blood meal and alfalfa meal is soluble though, not sure whats in the 5-5-5 happy frog.
Your plants are flowering i'd use a kelp meal, alfalfa meal, and fish hydrolysate tea.
The greensand and feather meal aren't doing anything in a tea though, unless you re-use that soil a couple times
OH, and good decision regarding the bark mulch, it can screw with your soil when it breaks down, robs your nitrogen from your soil to compost.

those plants look fine, I would highly recommend not doing a damn thing my brother. Purpling is normal for many varieties, your foliage looks fine, typically your foliage will "tell" you that you have problems long before your stems do.
Oh, and I like your little buddy.
More often than not the best course of action is to simply observe.

Hey thanks - I just gave them water & the purpling is fading. It's like you have to wait until what you did catches up with the plants in an organic grow. As long as you supply what they need in the container they will find it eventually. I used greensand, feather meal and blood meal as a dry top dressing mostly because I used only FFOF soil to start these off. Next time I will build my pot up in layers to avoid the need to top dress. I have been giving a tea with molasses, cal-mag, kelp meal, hi-P seabird guano, and fish fert every 7-10 days & that seems to keep them happy. Thanks again for the advice
