ok so i built it and its pretty and works but all i need to know now is a difinitive yes or no as to wether or not i need a timer for the sprayers/misters bla bla bla...i have it on 24/7 now and it pulled all 25 of my clones out of a folded over flat type of slump to a rock hard cutting like the day it was cut. but i would hat myslef if i saved them only to drown them or dry them out. puzzled over this detail. thanks

very hard to answer, i use my cloner constantly (roatating garden), and all i use is the neoprene disks so i leave my misters on 24/7 and i get incredible growth... BUT if theres any absorbant material around where the roots will take a timer is a must.... many use timers, i never have, so for you and your home made model it may be a trial and error to find what works best for you.

thanks for the replies. i didn't have the neoprene pucks but i had a bunch of rapid rooters so i cut them in half then split them down the side so i got 2 ''pucks'' out of each one. now they are very wet and water is dripping from the stems under the lid but i have an air stone in the res and im using 35%h2o2 so i think i'll be ok. i also run an s.o.g. very similar to albfuct so there only gonna be in there for a max of 2 weeks...however long it takes to root then the balance of time till the crop rotates.

you can try and take a safe route..

decrease your watering (timer) to a point where they look hungry, then increase it a little...

like start with 15"/4' then maybe bump it to 30"/4' then 30"/3' so on and so forth...

i do that with my aero in my veg station because of the pellets in there are absorbant, and its good if our plants are hungry, just not starving..

hope this helps ("=seconds & '=minutes)

any more thoughts on the subject folks?
First ask yourself what is the point of aeroponics?
To increase O2 to the root system. If your water is always on then your roots are always wet. If they are always wet then they are relying on the O in H2O. So basically put deep water culture (effective) BUT just because it provides results doesn't mean you cant do better. If you give your plants time to "dry/drink" they will take in the o2 from the air. then spray, they grab nutes and so on. Another VERY important factor is the temp of your water.the difference between 65deg water and 75deg water is 65 has upto 60% more o2 .

i agree take water temp if it is above say 68 you are looking for trouble.
if you can kep the water cool you should have no problem going 24-7

the high end cloners are doing 1 on 5 off from what i heard.

So far with a 24/7 spray going with no nutes, my clones take about 2 weeks to get good tap roots going. 100% success rate so far cloning ,48 at a time and I cut them about 6 inches long, throw in some hydroguard and superthrive in the rez and let it go to town. water stays around 67-69 F . Cant beat the success rate, I just take the best looking 36 and chuck the rest. OH...rooting medium is rockwool starter cubes.

If you are using no nutes at all, then the only food you are giving your plants is what is in the water itself. In most cases mostly calicum. Nitrogen is the most important in vgg growth. So yes you can beat the sucess rate. My clones tap in 2-3 days. I use R/O water w/ 1/4 strength nutes.

ok here are a few snaps of what's goin on.you'll see the cloner i made from scratch for about 32 bucks the big plants are my 6 mother plants and the flowering area is being doubled right now so it's empty.:hump::blsmoke:

That a nice little set you made. These are the things I like to see most. People thinking for themselfs and the whole trail and error learning process.

I have one recomendation that will help you. Instead of just pluging into the holes you made. Try putting your plug in a small net pot. this will allow you to pull your stem up into the plug itself and you wont wash away your rooting hormone and they will root much faster.
Just a thought:mrgreen:

i wondered about that very thing...so does everyone that uses neoprene pucks have this problem? i see your point about washing away!

I like the neo pucks but only to cover the top. I use rapid rooter plugs (its a sponge.) I put it in the net pot and the neo just holds everything in place and keeps co2 I add from seeping into the root chamber

i like the idea or the net pot except that i cut those holes only an inch wide...Only bit i had...if i widened them i would ruin the lid or have to replace it and start over. it's an option.

i see your using float n' grows by sunleaves or a similar product, do you like em? i use them as well but have noticed an algae on em.... and slower growth due to how absorbant they are....

nice set up!! tell me your thoughts on the floats.. thanks
