And God said, Let there be light

Ok this is where we will post while we design the room. The room at this point is 8 x 8, ceiling height is unknown. I have a friend who is starting out and is on a tight tight tight tight tight budget of only $600. I told that friend they would be able to get the lights, however that individual is handy with their hands so they can do a lot of DIY. I am pushing them to go Hydro. More to follow.

skip straight to a 600w mh/hps combo, or you will just spend more money in the end, use crap lamp bulbs for seedlings. Can rock that well under 200, leaves room for hydro equipment.

Well I have a few pumps, ton of hosing and what not to help my friend out. We created this thread so we can have a centralized location to keep thoughts. I agree we should go with a 600w hps/mh combo. I am thinking a lumatek ballast and a hortilux bulb with a cheap hood. Going to need a carbon filter and fan for sure. But other than that we can build most of the stuff ourselves.

imo, get the money together for a full setup, light, vents, fans, etc...staying on a budget will get you nowhere, just wanting more.

when i got 33" tires for my jeep, the older guys said go with the 35's and skip the 33's, "Once you see the 33's youre gonna want more."

What would be a reasonable amount to have to invest?

I spent roughly 500, on a 4 x 4 tent with a 600w hps and ballast, with a basic shitty reflector, got myself 12 seeds and 9 pots along with a big bag of Fox Farm and nutes.

8x8 with a 7ft height. I have 2-600's and a 400 for veg. probably $600 in lights. $150 in a nice 6" exhaust, filter and ducting and everything hangs from the eye hooks drilled to the beams.

dont get me wrong, i spent many 1000's on stupid shit and fads. finally said fuck it and converted my office into my grow room with 4 eye hooks, 4 light hangers and many bungee cords and tomato cages :-) looks ghetto but it works and its simple
omg! I spent way to much on my first setup... bad thing is I'm only on my second grow and I am already saying that lol

Yes this room will only vary in one difference in dimensions and that's either a 8 or 7 ft ceiling I'm going to Build the inner part of the room veg/flower sides according to the size of the system I use and yes Hydro is going to be the way I go

boom now that you got your account to work lol

We need to figure out what is going to be easiest to build. You are going to have to move things from veg room to flower room.

what I was saying is we need to figure out what you are going to build. Deep Water Culture? Drain to Waste/Recirculation? Top Feed? Aeroponic? etc

Well you have nothing lol so with a $600 budget I doubt we can do a veg and flower room.

Check your local craigslist for some used equipment.

I'd focus on setting up the rooms correctly the first time. Even if that means you slowly work your way to that 8x8 space. Build your veg room, an finish a cycle in their. Then put all the money from harvest into flower room.
