I just started assembling my 30w chips, went blind for about 30 seconds after the initial test firing. Wow, still seeing stars.
Doood, wear sunglasses when working with those bright lights. Repeated incidents like that can lead to macular degeneration later on.

If I was new to LED I would be looking to the people pulling the biggest yields with the healthiest plants and basically copying their light situation. We used to have a lot of impressive GROWS on here that SHOWED what many different lights could actually do real life. Some are still here doing it, and I commend, respect, and thank them very much. IMO most others need to start sharing their actual experiences, or with all do respect, shut up. Also, I suggest to new comers to stop making things more complicated when the correct and simple solution gets recommended by people who actually do what they recommend and get success...then again comes back to SHOWING what things can do. If there were better options the real experienced people here would be using them...and many "followers" would regurgitate it over and over.
I would also not use this thread anymore. Stop listening to to who ever chimes in and has read some open source info. Find someone successful and study politely their situation.
I would want experience behind recommendations. and I would want multiple runs under it. not just one, re-creatable results is what people want and need to see.
Basically what I would need/want to see...very little people supply here.

All this adds to hps still remaining king in peoples' grow rooms. It's a shame really.

I am also sick of the general term LED...Be specific, what led? They are not all the same and vary SUBSTANTIALLY from brand to brand, model to model, size to size....as we all already know and where much of the skepticism and pissing contest come from.

If someones response to a good recommendation that is backed by great grows is...it's too expensive, or I don't want to DIY...then LED's aren't going to work for you most likely and you should pick hps...simple as that...no corner cutting...get what will work...or wait.

Ya ya ya...so WHAT WORKS?...IDK, you show me.

My rant is over...I digress...

Some very nice comments! I do what I do! I don't hate someone for trying to market something! I respect that! But I will still tell u what I think! Its just nice to play with the new stuff. Instead of someone experiment! 1200 for a kind light! I would have spent 1800! I am half way there to a heliospectra L4A! Are there people gonna be mad cause I bought 1 and its gonna be f--kin awesome to play around with that!!!

Well, when I wanted advice when purchasing the CXA3070 COBs that I wanted, I couldn't think of a better thread than one titled:
IF you are new to LED and want help choosing what to buy, POST HERE!
So that's where I went. When I got to the end of the thread, there seemed to be a lot of back and forth regarding nothing that applied to the title. And the tone was bitchy too. Anyway, I asked my question, Greengenes and Medic replied with what I was looking for and I'm now really happy that I came here. I purchased the COBs that Medic pointed me to (Z4 split, better than what I had found), in the number that GG helped me come up with (6 CXA3070 3000K) and am really happy with this site and the community.

So big thanks and hugs to you people. Very generous of you. I'm very glad that you are out there.

IMO next time you need advice on building a light go to the DIY CXA thread, a lot more people will hear you and you'll get some good feed back. Have fun FD:smile:

The thing is that I am so sick of idiots coming here and acting like experts. I am a nobody who shows his grows...I rarely come off my island to recommend things unless I am tagged in a post. And when I do it's a more cost effective solution than that what I implement in my garden...usually a51 instead of AT...who are direct competitors(I must be a really good politician to pull that off right...you assfuck). I share my info and knowledge that has been gained from YEARS of growing with led's. And with that said... I do not consider myself an expert...and actually am very embarrassed when I post stuff about DIY most of the time. I feel that it is not mine to be taking credit for. I have learned a lot by myself...but there are a few people on here that I look up to and that are much of my base of knowledge...then I build my own experience and concepts from there. People talk about my drone...its 6 artics just happen to be on rails...nothing really original of myself expect that I calculated some par readings to finalize the spacing and put it in a housing(that I didn't make).
I stay to my own little corner of the forum and show what I actually do and how my garden performs. I don't even upload my tube videos on my own thread anymore(or anywhere else). But could easily get more "attention" for my political agenda if I wanted to post them here...but sadly I don't actually have one regardless of what certain people may think. If someone wants to see what I do/can do...all my grows are full documented and usually more thorough than 99% of others out there...but I am not going to go around forcing people to watch/listen to me. Personally I hate answering questions...just fucking listen then use a brain to think things out...I talk a lot. If people like it and keep watching , then great..if not...suck it.

I hope this thread gets shut down. It's a joke and I am sick of seeing it at the top of the page. Un-sticky this shit and let everyone search for results and learn instead of just jumping on to this worthless thread and having mommy spooned them...or the crazy escaped mental patients that found a computer. It had it's place originally, but now is dead. I will even be the asshole to get banned if it means all the rest of these fucks shut up or have to venture in to actual proof land.

I think that I have established myself in enough here over the years that this ranting I am on as of the last few days is not un-warranted, and is an actual concern for this great led community the truly knowledgeable and successful have established.
But If I am out of line here...Mods feel free to let me know.

I agree with this part. It's become clear that this thread is more about persuading people than helping them and providing options. It's not doing a service to people coming for advice. A locked sticky linking to a bunch of LED grow journals and instructions on how to ask for advice in your own thread would be more appropriate.

Exactly. Like the g/w thread at icmag. Just one post...editable by a mod to update with every completed and documented grow that goes down.
Basic info...
Yield
Light(s) and actual wattage
Space used
G/w figure
And a link to the journal/thread.
I quoted ya in hopes you might see this before it ends. Found a area 51 xgs 190 for $350 shipped, Im sitting on whether to place the order or not. About an hour left to decide.

What do you need me for. Click or don't. Do you want it...is it the price you want to pay.

Mainly because you have experience with the specific light I believe? It is a price I would want to pay but I am not sure if I can afford to make the investment right now and still get by. I guess I was also asking if you felt it looked like a decent deal I'd rather not pass it up if it is one? thanks man no dis respect intended just asking.

Nevermind, I somehow missed or you edited part of that.

It would be the best way to rank it. It takes some variables out and levels the field...closer to a one size fits all with g/w.
With that sau veg time would be a key variable to include.

With all the basic setup variable included then ranked by g/w I think is a good place to start.

If we had a wiki that could be done by the community. Plus a "How to choose an LED" page illustrating the tradeoffs of various options. I'm sure it would be contentious with varying opinions. But, at least the current consensus would be clear instead of reading a 2300 pages of conversation to try figure out what constitutes consensus. (A wiki page's "Talk" page serves as background. Long-standing members can be appointed wiki mods to settle disputes. Hopefully balanced individuals who can find a way to accommodate both sides.).

It's a different kind of collaboration. Not conversation, but encyclopedic.
