My
Your ground lays just like here. In your posts you say that you like to plant around corn, how do you keep the bugs from taking over? I had some about 20ft away last year and bugs were tearing its ass up. I had some drift from the roundup kill some of my darlings as well. You planting Auto's? I've thought of that. Also thought about planting some under the irrigation pivots but I'm afraid mold would set in the buds after a dose of water everyday on them. Most of the pivots are dialed in at 1/4" of water per pass. With the available nitrogen in the soil from the NH3 and dry fertilzer it would have plenty to grow and finish on. If your down south of me in Arkansas or Louisiana you have a lot of furrow irrigation and I think that would be great. Love to grow some that way.
apologies for overlooking your post Greenthumbskunk. I've growed in and around for cornfields numerous times. I'm smack dab in the middle of corn / soybean country. I've never had a bug problem of any kind. NEVER... Might sound hard to believe for you but I just never have. I'm guessing you are somewhere in the Midwest ;)

Well last night was one of those nights. After a day that touched the lower 90s with high humidity and a heat index of nearly 100 the Ladies in my backyard garden stretched like mad. Bombastic is the word of the day. Will be interesting to see how the others grew.:weed:

The first pix are some befores.

I listen to a lot of Alice in Chains. Those who know me well would define that as an understatement:grin:. Every time I hear Rooster I think of a man who was near and dear to my heart. He died from cancer a few years ago. He was the same age as my Dad and though him and my Dad were never close friends they use to walk home from school together. They would part ways as they come to a fork in the road and my Father would head on out to his Grandparents farm(Where I would grow up at and now live) while my friend would head to his Grandparent's place. This friend opened to me often about his time in Vietnam. He was in the Army special forces. He told of seeing children and Mother's being shot in the head during interrogations. He told of a chopper ride to Saigon for some R & R while being high to the heavens on heroin. That fucking money making(Military Industrial Complex) war on mankind destroyed and adversely affected so many lives it boggles the mind.

Now after having conversed with Doublejj and getting to know the quality of man that he is I think of him along with my dear friend every time Rooster comes on. Hat tip to you Doublejj and to those who were forced to wage war on their fellow man so that the coffers of men in high places might get fatter. P.S. Fuck Henry Kissinger

"In Haig's presence, Kissinger referred pointedly to military men as 'dumb, stupid animals to be used' as pawns for foreign policy." Bob Woodward

Since I'm on my soap box I'll offer up what is the most profound quote from Military Brass I have come across.

  • "I spent 33 years and 4 months in active service as a member of our country's most agile military force--the Marine Corps. I served in all commissioned ranks from second lieutenant to Major General. And during that period I spent most of my time being a high-class muscle man for Big Business, for Wall Street and for the bankers. In short, I was a racketeer for capitalism. I suspected I was part of a racket all the time. Now I am sure of it. Like all members of the military profession I never had an original thought until I left the service."

  • Smedley D. Butler (1881-1940)

Smedley Butler: War is just a racket. A racket is best described, I believe, as something that is not what it seems to the majority of people. Only a small inside group knows what it is about. It is conducted for the benefit of the very few at the expense of the masses.

I believe in adequate defense at the coastline and nothing else. If a nation comes over here to fight, then we'll fight. The trouble with America is that when the dollar only earns 6 percent over here, then it gets restless and goes overseas to get 100 percent. Then the flag follows the dollar and the soldiers follow the flag.

I wouldn't go to war again as I have done to protect some lousy investment of the bankers. There are only two things we should fight for. One is the defense of our homes and the other is the Bill of Rights. War for any other reason is simply a racket.

And war is the most profitable racket in the world!

In Vietnam, as we passed thru villages on patrol, children would come out and beg for candy. I watched in horror one day as a US Soldier handed a Hershey bar to a little girl, and as she reached out for the candy, the grenade they had strapped to her exploded....killing them both. Women, especially little girls, were expendable in Vietnam....war is hell...
