what if those individuals have been set back by centuries of unequal access to opportunity?

i mean, it's pretty easy to say everyone should be free to succeed based on their own merits when your race got way, way ahead based on skin color alone for centuries.
then they should have migrated out of afrika(that's how real blacks spell it not no white mans english) cuz afrika is a shithole and always has been. that's why god saved the christians from enslavement there

For centuries? Try still. How many of the conservative racists here do you think would allow a black plumber into their home? My dad is a conservative and he still doesn't trust black people enough to allow them to work in his home. There is just one way that black people have it harder, proving that we do not live in a meritocracy like the conservatives pretend we do.

that's true.

even though we've rooted out a lot of the obvious racism, there is still institutional and even unintentional racism confronting blacks and other minorities at every turn.

i've posted before about how resumes with black sounding names get less call backs, about how black drivers are more likely to be targeted, pulled over, searched, and arrested, about how blacks will face worse outcomes in our justice system given the same offenses, etc.

so to say everyone is free to succeed on their own merits is even easier when not only is your race starting from ahead of the start line, but is also wearing running shoes instead of lead-weighted boots.
