Cooling 600 Watt HPS

...couldn't actually find a definitive answer for my situation.

I have a 600 watt HPS air cooled reflector sealed with tempered glass with 6'' flange. My grow area will be 3X3X6.5 . Total cubic= approx 60.

How powerful of an inline exhaust should I get to keep temperatures down and have the glass seal cool to touch?

I'm not sure what cfm you should get....I've got a can270 cfm with a can 33 filter and a 600w hps with internal reflector, and my room gets way hot this time of year...I have to leave the doors open, have 2 extra fans, and I taped into the ac outlet with an in-line booster, and my temps are still a bit high for my liking. Point is...600w in a small space gets very very hot...so oversize the ventilation/

my one 600w in a 2.5 x 3.5 x 8 brings temps of 80-90 :(

+ with the door close 100+; go figure.

When I get home I can take a few pics of my set-up and show you what has helped....instead of typing everything out.

its pretty much the same sq/ft as you..my measurements were in feet....not inches...just so you know

I think I may have the temps under control....81 at the canopy last night after I added the booster fan into the house ac....so I'll know more today when I get back....but I'm having to run the house ac way too much

Thats why I was saying to oversize it. The temps without extra fans and stuff would get well over 90.

yeah i understand. So do you think an exhaust pulling 424cfm would do the trick? or would that be like a hurricane? lol

if you're going to get a fan that powerful, make sure you get a fan controller as well. most assuredly you will not need the whole 424cfm, but it would be nice to have that extra to play with if you need it.

I forgot you had a sealed reflector...so yeah one that big may be overkill...but as long as it can exchange the air well then you will be fine(as in having enough air coming in the room to feed the exhaust)

Home Depot has duct booster fans 6"270cfm and 8' 500cfm for like 26 and 32 dollars. They cool my 1000 watter and exhaust the air in a 9x9 room through a carbon filter. Works great.

Can you power down to a 400w? For only a 3x3 space 600w is overkill when you only have 6.5ft ceiling to work with. No wonder you want it cool to the touch. If the ambient air temps are in the 50-60 vs 90s like where I am now, id say give it a shot. I just looked at a n 8" vortex fan and 8" can fan. The can fan was a lot more directional, the vortex seemed like it had more "torque". Both were in the 750cfm range, itll suck the shit out of any hood with a good length of tubing. You still might need AC.
