I have about ten pounds of ground malted barley that I never used in a batch of homebrew. I've read here and there barley is good for a tea. Just wanted to ask you guys if and how I could put this to good use.

Great Idea!

2 tablespoons of seeds (1 oz.)
Soak for 12 hours. Drain that water and throw away. It’s full of growth inhibitors.
Add 1/2 gallon of water to the sprouts for the 48 hour soak.
Strain and use 1 cup of this to 1 gallon of water.

Malted means the barley has already been sprouted and dried. It's was ground up at the homebrew store. So now all I have to do is add some to water and aerate right?

Ah- then the magic is gone.

You could use this in compost, but the dead sprout won't produce the enzymes or secondary metabolites we want

Like fungi, you can bet that whatever lives there is among the toughest!

I have often referred to recent studies that suggest that our hightened
cleanliness is potentially what has lead to increases in certain disorders.
(the immunity effect IIRC)

Microbes are really another organ for us, albeit invisible. Microbes in and on us have many more profound roles than we currently give them credit for. Immune response is but one. Interestingly, many many common maladies are linked to immune system dysfunction. Autism, for example. Heavy correlation to the immune system.

So whats the purpose of this tea and at what growth stage of the plant would you feed it this tea?

The tea is great all throughout the life of the plant. Coot uses it every other week, for example.

The hormones, enzymes and secondary metabolites really help all stages of a plant's growth.

Mashed tater- do you have a worm bin?

I've always known our idea of "Clean" Was BS. i grew up drinking lake water and eating dirt and just plain ole being gross. getting into dead animals and whatnot just flat out being outside and i was healthier then most. a good narly bath would probably be about like H2o2'ing your buckets wouldnt it? leave a sterile environment with lots of dead for food? perfect place for the baddies to come set up shop?

and mind you I'm not saying bathing is bad cause I'm sure bathing helps with keeping everything in balance too if you do it right. I'm just saying bathing the wrong way is probably bad right? I'm gonna look into some natural soaps and stuff for me and my little girl. johnson and johnson i doubt has her health as a paramount concern.

this dirty old iranian really flipped a switch with me for some reason. i guess just seeing the polar extreme of our daily disinfecting showed me that maybe moderation (Like with most things) Should probably be considered even in bathing. dont over do it but dont let yourself become a stinky old iranian either lol.

45,000 views on the thread. MI rocks! I'd like to think that there are a lot more soil growers these days

Some of those are from Maine. :eyesmoke:
and some of us from under hills, through valleys over mountains passed boarders and over the salt... this thread pops up in google pretty good if you type in a few key words..

Question for Rrog:

In your ROLS mix you have listed a 3 part LIME package... Is there anything else one could substitute the dolomite lime with? Like white oak bark??
