Making bho with no Vaccum

So I want to make some shatter out of some bud I have, I have the butane, extraction tube, filters, Pyrex, and portable hot plate. Can I make bho without a vacuum chamber? Or can someone send me a link to a good pressure pot with vacuum for cheap? Thanks guys.

You want shatter..using butane..no vac
Winterize in everclear..removes waxes and such as well as the butane
leaves you with nice shatter

If you just heat purge, chances are you won't get real shatter

Another option is to use a mityvac brake bleeder to purge. I wrap a cheapo heating pad around a jelly jar & stuff the roll into a cardboard box which makes a nice lo-temp vac oven.. Then just pump the handle up to full vac to start pulling a muffin. Whole setup was under $30...purged about a g of delicious yellow gold shatter last night in about 3 hrs

Winterizing removes the fats and waxes that the butane likes to pick up. They make it more taffy like and not glass at room temp, they change the overall color and feel of the hash besides how it smokes. These waxes and non polar ickies are harsh and congestive. Winterized shatter is real smooth and much much better than regular bho.......Dissolve the hash in everclear(brand of 95% ethanol) when there's no remaining butane..warm up the everclear first and add kinda slowly till all the hash is dissolved. Put this ever clear hash mix in the freezer for atleast 24 hours ..then filter it through 2 coffee filters.. evaporate away..

Hey I have this glass/taffy like bho. When still cold is like glass & will break, but at room temp its like taffy. Not very stick but very elastic. Any opinions?IMG_0151.jpgIMG_0145.jpgIMG_0155.jpg

Hey thank you very much for that info. So does the winterization process take the place of the vacuum purge? I just tried to google the process, seems pretty complicated, is it? I'm trying to find a good how to... Any suggestions? Links?

Keeep looking into it. You can winterize and achieve an end product without vacuum

quite a few threads on the discussion here in the C & E section. Search up!

And in case you can't find Everclear, you can use 91%-99% ISO instead. Everclear I think is a little better but ISO worked for me for winterizing.

Hey is this a good how to video? http://youtu.be/0SHxMD2D0K4
Better to use 190 proof, and not 151 as in the video (10:10).

If ethanol is poured into the liquid butane before installation in the freezer,
make sure that the solution temperature has not fallen below the boiling point of n-butane.

Better and safer to wait until the butane to evaporate completely and then fill in ethanol, then it can be done indoors.

Good points!

Getting rid of the water is harder than getting rid of alcohol, so costs monoterpenes and carboxylic acids.

I add alcohol, after the butane appears to be gone, but if you blast directly into the alcohol, or dump it in early, I would let the solution reach room temperature, with no observable bubbling, before sticking it in the freezer.
