Mould on soil - wet soil
Hi,
This is my first grow. I am using Compo Universal and it seems to stay wet for a long time. I wanted to add some grit to the soil but I am in Spain (where growing for personal use is legal
) but I couldn't find anywhere which sold it...
Anyway some of the plants are growing mould on the surface of the soil and I wondered if this is a problem. When I touched it, mould dust came off.
Any advice to this?
Thanks

Yes this can be a problem. Can you take a spoon or something a scoop the mold out? Then make sure you have a fan blowing on your plants all the time. This will discourage the mold from forming again.

as mogie said, get a spoon and scoop the the soil surrounding the mold along with the mold out. most mold isn't to toxic but still you should get it out of your place for sure
keep the thumb green and the gun oiled,
!

Thanks, I have scooped most of it out (what I could) and added a fan. The grow room is a basement and it could be too damp in there. Is a fan fine or should I get some type of fan heater?

You need to moniter the temp and humidity. Temp should be around 85 during the day and humidity around 50.

i had that same problem, it was like a white mold growing on top of my soil, turns out that i was supposed to clean out the plastic trays that hold the runoff water under my plants, I guess leaving that extra water in there creates too much humidity and mold grows bcuz of it. :-/
the mold is harmless to the plants, but can harm the roots if you let it go unattended too long. hopefully you're smarter than me and clean the trays after watering...
good luck

Put 1 inch of sand on the top and get you fan going. Your night tempetaure must be dipping into the low 70's and high humity = mould.
try to keep temp's around 80 to 90% and humity around 60% higher is OK but make sure you don't get the low 70's
Peace
