Default Light cycle switching okay?
Hey all, I had problems in my grow with my hps and long story short I ended up with a 9p.m on time for 12 hours. I really need to switch that to 9a.m start time. Is it okay to give them a 24 hour dark period to accomplish this? I figured 24 hours of light might cause reversion back to veg. Please, some thoughts on this? By 9 p.m tonight if you can so I know if I should leave them off.

Go for it. Shouldn't be a problem. I believe you can only revert to veg if you start giving them 16+ hours of light every day.

I have completely switched before. I did it by doing 2 hours a day. Read somewhere on here anything over 2 hours is a shock and the plant will have to recover and that will stress the plant. Didn't want to test the limits so I just did a break between a hour more of darkness and light. Just my 2 cents. Good luck!

Yeah, dark is probably safer, even though I doubt you could start reveg with that amount of time. It doesn't really stress out a plant very much if its a one time thing. Outdoor plants have no problem dealing with a dark, overcast day.

Check this out. I gave them just under 24 hours darkness in order to get them back on a normal daylight synced light cycle. When I turned the lights on one of my females had A LOT of hairs on it were before it had none. Interesting I thought. I'm wondering though, does anyone know if the increased darkness would have caused a sudden explosion in flower hormones maybe causeing this? Do you think there is a benefit to adding periods of darkness to the flower cycle to increase this hormone? Any studies done on that? Just a thought.

Thanks ya'll,
-Dude

When light goes to 12/12 the plant realizes it's life is almost over. The driving force is to reproduce. That is it's only reason to be alive. When the days shorten it starts to build receptors to collect pollen thus the sticky hairs or trichs. I'm not sure hormones have that much to do with it. One last thing all weeds are different how do we know what affects what outside? How do we know if the dark days don't fuck up some weeds. I see dead weeds before winter all the time. I have experimented with the 36 hour thing and have like many others on here, found no benefit but a means to change the times around for easier convenient grow times.
