Ok so after reading the other post about a mother Im still confused. Im getting ready to start my first grow and have been doing some serious research. From everything Ive heard you keep a mother plant in constant vegetative state (18/6 or 24 hours a day) lighting. So to start and keep a mother. Do you...
1)Start my beans 2)Veg under Mh lighting until proper height is reached 3)Switch to hps lighting and change to 12/12 until sex shows 4)Pull the plant I want to use as a mother and revert her back to constant veg lighting? 5)Then take clones? Or could I just simply take clones off the females Ill be growing 2-3 weeks before harvest and use these? Thanks to all who reply |

Uhh, you may not like this, but...
my answer is neither. Yes, you keep a female mother plant under 18 hours light per day. You could do your numbered options, but then the mother plant would have been induced to flower already. You don't want that if possible. Then all of the clones off of her would be reverted plants. What you want to have is a mother that hasn't been flowered yet. So when you are growing out your seed plants, take a cutting (or two) from each plant, and root them under 24 hour light for a week, and then put them in 12/12 for a couple of weeks and they will show sex. Of course, you've marked the clones well, so you know what seed plants are female. At this point, you've grown your seed plants about 6-8 weeks, and you can remove the males, and decide what you want to do with the ladies. HTH

Hi Coast,
Your idea is pretty sound to me.. I would take clones from the potential mothers and label them.. so you know where each clone came from.. then I would root the clones and grow them... then flower all the mothers... if any of them turn male, throw out their corresponding clones!!! This is a little extra work on the front side but well worth the extra effort. And you will not loose any growing TIME.. cha ching iloveyou ANother consideration is to just NOT use MOTHERS.... just keep cloning your new generation before you flower the plants... ....... grow, clone, flower This is a GREAT way to have FAST turn around without having to tend to a mother.. iloveyou |

I switched the "clones" and the "mothers" in your text. I thought that was what you ment to say. But if I am wrong then I will shut up now. lol.

I see...
thanks... Actually I ment it the way I wrote it... If you flower the "mothers" and then throw out the corresponding clones, you wil not loose any time.. your plants will already be starting flower before your clones even root... YES!!! that means BUDs soner for you!.. Your female clones can be your new "mothers"... cheers.. |
