The title says it all. I have never cloned before, but I just took the cuttings of some males, dipped them in water, stirred them in Shultz root hormone powder, and then put them in moistened peat pellets. I am using disposable 9 ounce clear plastic cups as my humidity dome.

I'm cloning 9 male and 9 female plants. My first clone So far 7 males and 2 female have rooted. 7 females are still in the humidity dome. I lost 2 males. I have lots of pic if you are looking for ideas. I am also open for ways to improve.

Edit: Good Luck. I found the males take faster, or at least in my clone.

My thought was clone a female and the clone is female.
Clone a male and the clone is a male.
Not so?
If it went hermie I was thinking of cloning from it, but not a male.

I'm real curious to how this turns out.

Why are you guys cloning males?

I clone the males for lots of reassons:
1) pratace
2) the leaves have a high thc at one week in flower (good for hash or smoking)
3) pollen collection (for breading)

First off, I started with some peat pellets.






Second, I soak peat pellets in a bowl of shallow water for a few minutes.






While I waited for the peat pellets to expand, I decided to take a look at my two male candidates... Little Red Caboose (left) and B6 (right)






I decided on B6. He is the most potent male plant I have ever smelled.






I got out a knife/dagger, and checked back on my peat pots...






I busted out my rooting hormone and poured a little bit out onto the lid. **Be careful not to inhale or get much skin contact, it's very toxic!**






Deciding the dagger/knife is too blunt, I busted out my scissors and got ready to make my first ever cut...






And I cut it. Here is the plant, post-cutting:






Here is the cutting:






I dipped the cutting in a clear cup of water, and then in the rooting hormone powder, and finally pressed the stem gently into the most, water-soaked peat pot. Note: I used both hands and could not take a picture of me dipping it in the powder...






I went back to the B6 'father' plant and took another cutting. Shown are two pictures of the 2nd cutting:






Here is the father plant after two cuttings:






Here is a good picture of me dipping the cutting into cloning powder:






I took a third cutting, but this time I took my knife/dagger and stripped the bottom a little bit to expose more raw tissue (shown on right):





Now I took the cuttings and placed each one in a separate clear, plastic, 9 ounce wine party cup. This will look great once the roots start to form.






Finally, I got a peace of tape and taped an identical clear, plastic cup to the top of each one, using the tap as a hinge.



All done!

i had a stupid idea that i was going to try with one of my clones. i am going to try and instigate two seperate root system for a single plant. not sure if it will work but i want to instead of making one cut, make two and take a branch from the middle of the plant and cut the stock or stem 2 ish (up and down) inches from the branch i want to sprout. then dip both ends into the cloning powder and put both ends into rockwool or pete or neoprin for cloning machines. hopefully both ends grow roots.

so what are you planning on pollenating with your males? what are your males?

That's not a stupid idea at all! In fact, I believe it works. You saw how my second two cuttings had two open wounds. I just didn't have the room, or the side branches required to dip both sides in rooting solution and placing them underground. That being said, be sure to update me on how it turns out! Do you have a link to a grow journal by any chance? It's never too late to make one. :P I use my cell phone camera, that's it.

I don't know what I'm going to do with them. I mainly just want practice so that once I decide to clone females I will be able to clone them effectively without having any die.

The strain is unknown, the Little Red Caboose is middlegrade bagseed from a frat house I went to a couple years back. The B6 is tupperware bagseed that I got from my friend, who got it from his friend, who got it from his dad (his dad apparently grows, lol). I could probably find out some time though.
