Default swamp
find a fairly shallow spot. Wiggle a 6"diam pvc pipe down into soil. Then remove pipe from soil and remove soil/mud from pipe. Now setting up the pvc can be done a few different ways.
1. Attach an insert near the bottom of the pvc pipe so as to block the pipe and hang a rope or some other sort of wick system from one side of opening to the other.wiggle frimly into sediment. then fill w/ soil and additives.
2. just jam pvc into mud substrate till firm toss in some rocks on bottom so as to hold soil from washing away before it sets-up. Layer some soil on top of rocks. Catch a fish/buy a fish and place/toss on this layer of soil. Add remainder of soil to this and Hot Damn, no need to water or fertilize.

Personally I like #2 since it is easy and easily concealable in the US with the onset of Trout season in April to prep the spot, and the fish decomposes at just the rate of root growth during bud to fully appreciate the whole cloak y dagger approach. Work smarter not harder.

the pots sound like a good idea because you can always move them

Pots work well. But who's looking for pot in a swamp, or taking a brisk walk there and happening upon it. I painted my pvc green and was able to use themfor years until I moved to the city. They are probably still there for all I know. They were also in about 3 feet of water and very inconvenient to get to without a boat or fishing raft.
