I bought my HPS light a couple of days ago, I just gave it a 6 hour run, and its stopped working. the fuse is fine. but its a flood light with a built in ballast. What is the chance of it just over heating and it'll come back on in a while ?

There are 4 components that could fail;
1-bulb 2-igniter 3-capacitor 4-transformer This is the order to check them in,as # 1 is the most likely etc. If the light won't come back on after cooling my first check would be bulb, then igniter, then capacitor. The chances of transformer failure are relatively small. I always keep old, but working bulbs around in case of emergency, but if this is your first HID lamp you probably don't have one. I use a meter to check continuity too, it might just be a bad connection, it's hard to diagnose at a distance. Good luck. |

It is an ARCLUCE, HPS light. It looks like it was designed to be used as a flood light for a football court or something...
I found out the issue and it was over heating... To fix the issue is really simple... I can keep it working for 12hours a day by simply moving the air around inside the cupboard for 5 mins every 4 hours... I obviously have a fan running almost constantly now on a low setting, and I havent had it go out since. I did actually buy this from a shop... ok it looked knocked off, but, ARCLUCE 400watt HPS - £35. would you say no? I'm planning on taking the outter casing off sometime when my grow cycle permits it... I'll give an update then! |
