since i dont have much growing space, would it be okay if the plants touch cfl bulbs? would they burn the leaves?

Depends on what CFLs you get. During vegetative state, you want cool white CFLs, not soft warm. I've seen several grow boxes with the plants touching the lights and they worked out fine. Grow on...

keep the cfls half a inch away and you will be just fine as bug, and don't put them more than 2-3" above since this already will course some mild stretching to them and stretching is bad

wow. even though its such a small detail, i didnt know that the distance from the light to the plants affects stretching. even with all the research, a lot of guides leave out small, but important, details like this. if i want to do some l.s.t. on the plants, would it be good to increase the distance from the plants to the lights? since i want the plants to be following the light source?

You can also cut them in a manner where they grow the way you want them to grow.

Patch.. yo do not want the liights touching the bulb.. try bending the plants using twist ties, string, etc...

The lights can be 1/16 of an inch from your plants (especially if you have a light blowing fan on them) but touching them will cause BURNING..

thanks garden knowm . although cfls dont give out loads of heat they will still burn ur plants if touching ....i dont know what the above guy uses but ive used loads of different cfls and ive never found one that does not burn the plant if it touching the bulb .

Im'm sorry but even though I am not very experienced, I do currently have a plant pic in the gallery and the lights are at least 4 inches and as you can see it is FAR from streching
