Default Plant Question??? Help!!!

I recently got a clone from a friend and I have a few Questions I hope someone can answer. When I got the plant it had leaves on it that had been cut on one finger of a leaf...why is that?...Should I remove the leaves? And now i am noticing that some of the tips of the larger leaves are dried and dead...Why is that?
