my plant is just about 4 weeks old plus a couple of days, and it has developed a hell of a lot of new leaves and tops below the main top of the plant. Each of these lower leaves and tops were not getting enough light, so i trimmed off the fan leaves. What i was wandering is, what replaces the fan leaves when they have been chopped???Is it new fan leaves, or more tops that make buds.
I have moved it into a slightly more enclosed space with three 21 watt cool cfl bulbs. This will hopefully give it some time to regenerate.
Also, the plant is now about 6-7 inches high and showing signs of v.healthy growth with lots of new lower leaves being formed.
Would i at this stage be able to determine which sex the plant is by placing it under 12/12? or is it too early for the plant to do this?

well, you wont be seeing anything to replace the loss of your chopped fan leaf, they dont come back. And yes, you can put your boy/girl in 12's to determine sex

so, no, nothing will grow back there except for the new shoots (which are most likely already forming) and yes, you can sex it

Hey MAN... there is NO reason to remove fan leaves.. at least not i the early stages of a plants life... Those fan leaves are vital.... if they are not getting enough light, they wil turn YELLOW.. a perfect yellow and fall off... or you can just add some CFL side lighting..

thanks for the info. Feel bad for the plants now lol! will it stunt their growth at all if the fan leaves have been cut?

if you haven't cut off the whole leaf then it will still catch the light. I've actually heard people refer to fan leaves as sun leaves. The more leafy a plant the more light it can absorb. Leaves are good.
