Howdy Gents & Ladies.....Here's my problem....I have a Sativa that I have been babying for 4 months now...yup...4 months...and she is growing at a steady rate, as all Sativas do, but she is now in the 3rd week of flowering and when I look at my girl, you can plainly see that the nodes about from the middle up are showing white pistils and doing what they're suppose to. However, from the middle down, you can see that I have plenty of small bud growth, but no white pistils! Yeah, it's my 1st grow, and I am still learning, but don't some of you think that I should trim 1 maybe 2 of the bottom leaves from the tree so that she will get all her strength going to the tops where the pistils ARE showing? She is so freakin' tall (42")..that's no typo....and so I'm thinking that the bottom growth will NEVER turn into anything, due to the way she is flowering. Hopefully, the pics. will show you what I mean. Sorry about the picture quality! Also, to see how much she grows, one picture should show you a date about a week or so back and look at how tall she is now. I SERIOUSLY need some experienced input! Whatever you can add would be greatly appreciated!

First off, What type of lighting are you using... Your plant is STRETCHED to Hell, (no offense)

Get some lights closer to your plant and build up that stem strength with fans... or just take some clones and start from there.


Good luck... I would Not trim in your case... Just add some side lighting

THANKS for your reply...you are right about the lights...got a new 400 w HPS due in this Friday. Lights have been an issue at my house and I finally put my foot down and brought the proper lights. However, remember she is a Sativa and capable of growing much taller than this. This is one part of my issue( THANKS again!

I would remove the lower branches they are gonna steal precious energy from your real bud producing areas. Check the growfaq on pruning for increased yields. Trust me you aren't losing anything but a few grams shit weed you are going to end up making hash from anyway.

Ya need a fan blowing on it. Bend the top down so it will grow some branches.

I appreciate your replies! Actually, she has had a fan on her everyday since she was two weeks old. It's a little fan, but powerful. But, never did I suspect that this thing would be growing into gargantua! I think you are right, I am leaning towards removing the bottom 2 stems. Anymore ideas?

Put your fan on high. The stock should be the size of your finger atleast by now. Bend the top down so ya will get the branches growin.

if you were a wise man you would tie a fishing weight to the end of some hemp or fishing line to the top of your plant and bend in over to form a concave down parabola. since you have little or no side branching currently with few budsites for your herb to actually grow, this will allow the plant even light distribution over a larger surface area. All your side shoots will grow up towards the light creating a more even canopy of multipple thick dense tops. this is your best bet, hands down, no questions asked. Some light LST from the would greatly benefit you as well. you are early into flowering, i might even considering re-vegging that thing for a month or so and allowing the side branches to grow some first and then throw it back into flowering.
