I yhave been saving my pot ashes for Two and a Half years (for no reason at all)and it occured to me that i might be able to use them in my soil like farmers use wood ashes. My question is does anyone know if Pot Ashes are good for soil like wood ashes, or are they not good to use at all? I have a mayonais Jar full to the top and a mustard container almost to the Top. Should I toss um , or use um?

Be exellent to each other!

I don't see anything wrong with that, pot ash probably still has a lot of supplementary minerals in it. Mix it with your potting soil, but be SURE to ph it before you start your grow, and keep an eye on your ph throughout, wood ash is usually pretty alkaline. A neat experiment would be to grow two plants, one with marijuana ash and one without, and see how they do. Keep us updated.

I can't see how it would be any different than wood ashes...... I like the experiment idea, I'd go with that and let us all know the outcome....

Since this is unknown territory I would get a base line ph for your potting soil, as well as a baseline ph for pure ash (stir your ash until it's a consistent mix so you don't get any hot spots) Then start slowly adding measured amounts into your soil (so you can report your ratio here). As little as a table spoon at first, mix well, then ph your soil again, repeat the process until it starts to show alkalinity or acidity. If it's out of marijuana's happy range you should use the guide here: GROWFAQ to get your soil back to a marijuana friendly ph. (5.5 to 6)

i have a ph test kit that i "borrowed" from my old high school, but it says ph is 7.0 all the time with like 6 diff soils, so i dont think it works or im doing it wrong. so no ph testing here. just might give it out in baby steps and see what happens.

Yeah it sounds roached, or dirty lol. In that case just go with 2-4 heaping tablespoons per quart of soil in your first bucket and 4-8 in your second bucket.

But I'd be very careful putting seedlings in them with an unknown ph, maybe get them started in regular potting soil in paper cups then transplant to the ash supplemented soil in a week or two. That way they'll have fighting chance if the ash is too much.

Yo, I've been collecting pot ash too, lol.. Not nearly as long, but the reason I started a "pot tray" in my house was because I heard somewhere you could boil it down to resin or something like that... Anyone know about that?
