Erm i dont think so no. As close as you can get without burning them. Depending on what lights your using this will vary. But it'll be obvious in real life if you place your hand above the plants, if its hot then move it. If its just slightly warm then spot on.

edit: Oh and make sure NO light reaches them when the lights turn off. I dont know what your grow op is like so you may have this covered. You probably know that but just incase
