Spider Mites

IDENTIFY: The spider mite is the most common pest found on indorr marijuana plantsand causes the most problems. To a newbies, they are hard to spot, spider mites have eight legs. Find microsopic spider mites on the bottom of the leaves. However, their telltale signs of feeding, yellowish white spots, on the tops of leaves are easy to see. Careful inspection reveals tiny spider webs on stems and under leaves as the infection progess’s. A maginifying glass will help you see the yellow white two spotted, brown or red mites and their clear eggs. Indoors the most common is the two spotted spider mite. After the they fuck like rabbits females are fertilized for life and reproduce 80% female and 20% male eggs, females will lay about 100 eggs. (poor bitch)

Damage: Spider mites suck life giving sap from marijuana plantscausing over loss and stunting of growth. Leaves are poked with suck hole marks in yellow from failed to produce chloraphyl. The marijuana plant will loose partial to full function (which means your marijuana plantsare fucked) Leaf yellowing and drop. Once a plant is overrun with spider mites the infestation pregresses rapidly.

In simple words if you get mites and don’t catch them you are screwed.

How to control Spider Mites: Be clean. This is the most important first step to spider minte control. Keep the grow room tools spotless and dis-infect your tools. Mother marijuana plantsoften have spider mites, Spray mothers often with miticide’s including once three days before cuttins. Once you become infested the entire grow room will have to be stripped down and clean. YOU DO NOT WANT THESE THINGS 

Good luck happy growing… Im off to go roll a joint (maybe even write an article on it)

I got them when I got some clones from a friend. They really suck bad. And are hard to get rid of. I started out with lady bugs and that knocked out alot of them but didnt get rid of them. Then I bought some fruit safe bug spray from walmart. That didnt work either. I ended up getting a couple foggers from the local hydro shop. Used them 3 weeks in a row and havent seen any since. What a pain in the ass.

Were they pyrethrin foggers? I haven't heard of foggers working for mites, it's good to know. Most folks end up having to spray the plants to get rid of them. Floramite is a good miticide, but it's expensive. It has some residual action, too. I would recommend washing your plants well before harvest if you spray with any nasty stuff.

Neem oil is the best natural spray for pests.

Its called Doktor Doom. Contains 0.4% pyrethrins and 2.0% piperonyl butoxide. Hope that helps. I was told I could fog the flowers with no side effect. Hmm maybe thats why I got so stoned off of it. lol.

2 days ago i got spider mites for sure. i had the red mites and i saw one with 2 spots on it. i got it from my garden for flowers outside. i didnt notice them until right after i put it in. i didnt take much soil only took enough to cover the top last inch of the pot. i probably have about 20 if that. not much. i have good eyes and trust me i was looking. i heard they like moisture so i let the soil get bone dry for about a day and let my grow room get to 102 degrees. yeah i know. i also heard they dont always come up and stay to feed on the roots so i dug around the plant to look at the roots and didnt spot any. could this have killed them?

Hey guys, about a week into my current grow I saw a few mites on the floor and thought nothing of it. I had left a jug of water out, uncapped, and the next week when I was checkng on my girls, I noticed thousands of these things had fallen into the jug and died. And when I inspected my room, there was no trace of those bastards.

Anyways I was thinking maybe because they like humid environments, the combination of a 1000 watt bulb and open jug of water might have seemed perfect to those mites. Well it's been 3 weeks and I haven't noticed anymore :)

Soo, does this mean that hydro growers have less of a chance of spider mites? (because there is no dirt), or more of a chance of spider mites due to the obvious humidity?

lets get one thing straight: spider mites do not like humid environments! I'm not sure where you guys got this idea, (BCOX, fightthecrimecoco, and anyone else) but you were terribly misinformed. Are you sure your had spider mites?? Spider mites thrive in dry, hot environments. Spider mite predators such as Phytoseiulus persimilis, Metaseiulus occidentalis, and Phytoseiulus longpipes prefer the opposite. They generally like a little cooler, humid environments.

go ahead and research it yourself: http://www.getridofthings.com/get-rid-of-spider-mites.htm

knowledge is power

Now, if there is anyone who does know anything about them or has been successful at getting rid of them, please chime in now. I have been able to control my problem and keep their numbers down but its getting to be a pain in the ass and I am searching for a safe and effective treatment that I can use during flowering. I have had success using a mixture of rubbing alcohol and water to kill them in veg stage but I am paranoid that the rubbing alcohol will disolve THC on the budding plants because is is so good at cleaning resin out of glass. Does anyone still use it during flowering? What other methods have people used successfully????

they chill outside and hitchhike on whatever you bring indoors, as quikee says. i am pretty sure that i got mine from some 2x4s that i used to stack some pots on for better position.they had been outdoors for some time.

so dont bring in shit from outdoors if posssible, and you can get prevenative foliar sprays i think.

this stuff kills mites!! its all i use.
have fun killing those little bugers

1/4 cup Baking Soda
1/2 cup Apple Cider vinegar
1 Tablespoon Lemon Juice
2 drops dish detergent
1/4 Teaspoon Epsom Salts

Take a cup of very hot water and desolve the epsom salts, take rest of ingredients and place in a clean 2 liter bottle and let work out. Add epsom solution. Add water to fill to 48ozs(3/4 full).Shake well.

TO USE: Cover soil/medium with plastic, with lights off mist plant all over, especialy under leaves,
Wait 20 mins, then spritz off with clean fresh water shaking as much water off plant as you can.
The fresh water spritz rinse will remove the solution along with the desolved remains of the mites and their eggs.

Have fun with your new "Mite Eradicator"

Note by MrFixit: Water plants 1/2 hour before spraying. This will help keep your plants from absorbing the spray.

This solution has been tested and used as directed will not burn plants, the rinse is very important though as it removes the spent solution before it can concentrate and burn the plant. It also removes most of the dead mites and eggs so you don't end up smoking them.

The formula can be diluted further,to 1 liter and it will still kill the mites but isn't as effective at dissolving and removing the mite parts.
Since removing the mite debris is desirable,I recommend the stronger solution, just remember to rinse and shake.
This formula is alkaline(about 7.8- so please remember to rinse.

Mite irradication is absolutely assured and guaranteed if used as directed.
I've never seen ANYTHING work this well for mite irradication!!
I used to gas my booths for mites,it worked but they came back,I haven't seen a living mite in a long time now. They haven't come back, partly because of cooler weather, partly because I hosed the Roses that were infecting everything with the formula and wiped out all the mites during testing.
The only thing I wish I'd done different is,I wish I would have done sections of the Roses and preserved
some of the mites for later tests.I've had to go searching for victims to test it on and there just aren't any left!! I did find some victims for my final tests in the park where we have meetings, the plants by the river are pretty sickly and infested(were I should say,I walked around with ONE pint bottle and cleaned up most of the area.LOL)
If news of this formula were to become widespread, mites would become an endangered species!!!So GOOD HUNTING !

Ial giver a try:blsmoke:
Home made mixes might kill the adults but do nothing for the thousands of eggs waiting to hatch every 3-4 days

Floramite works great you can get 1 oz for $30 on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/FLORAMITE-SC-1OZ-SAVE-YOUR-BUDS-CHECK-MY-FEEDBACK_W0QQitemZ140331678263QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item20ac6b7a37&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=65%3A12%7C66%3A2%7C39%3A1%7C72%3A1240%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50#ebayphotohosting

Usage is 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon per gallon of spray... long residual control of more than 21 days (meaning 1 treatment is usually all you need if your area has been totally cleaned)

Mix ratio is 1/4 teaspoon to 1 gallon of water - 1 fl oz makes 24 gallons of spray.
( You may also mix ratio at 1/2 teaspoon to 1 gallon for major infestations - making 12 gallons of spray )

I deployed predator mites in my crop a week ago. To keep the humidity up for them I'm misting heavily twice a day. So far, I can say that my problem (minor) is not getting worse. These guys take 4 weeks to get control, so I'm being patient. My plants are currently in day 12 of flowering, so I don't have to worry about bud rot from the misting yet. In veg I use insecticidal soap every 5 days or so. On the whole, I find it's just easier to bud in winter when the bugs aren't around!:-? Plus, I do a lot of outdoor gardening this time of year, and it's impossible for me to keep them completely out. I don't wear dirty gardening shoes in my grow room and try to keep dust to a minimum (Spider mites like dusty environments and, yes, hot and DRY conditions.)

I've got mites on one of my plants for sure.... Little f%ckers!!!

The plants were outdoor until i had to bring them in 2weeks ago.. I have no lights, so i've been managing on the sunlight coming through the window to keep them alive. I think the high humidity must have brought the b*astards in. The plants went back outside today..

Will they spread to the other plants?
How can i get rid of them? I have limited access to miticides. Just a basic garden centre.. Any suggestions what to look for??

HELP ME PLEASE!!!!!!!

I used Dont Bug Me by Foxfarm, but the guy at our local hydro shop recomends just using compost tea to foliar spray.I got rid of them with Dont bug me.But I had some clones outside ,and have them again, this is a year later.I am using the rest of the DBM ,and will continue with compost tea.Just foliar spray once a week with the tea,he said thats all he uses and it works. This time I caught the bastards early before webbing.Interesting though when I had them really bad ,one plant didnt hardly get any,so I kept her, regenerated and cloned her ass.She was a diff strain than the others,my own personal hybrid I created from high grade Canadian commercial.
