The most usual method is to force flower a labeled clone to determine the sex, rather than the incorrect method of forcing the Seedling & then reverting it to vegetative growth again. If you are a seedling grower that doesn't clone, or a grower who has no sectioned off vegetative and flowering grow spaces, the simplest method is only to wait for the preflowers (primordia), and sexual maturity to appear while the seedling is in vegetative growth. In other words, if you wait until they are 6 to 8 weeks old, virtually all plants will show you their gender without any forcing. Seedling growers who don't clone are really missing out on the good potency potential of their finished crop whenever they force their seedlings before they've become sexually mature.

When is the earliest you can clone? I mean, how tall does the seedling have to be? Or how many leaves/nodes does it have to have or whatever? Mine are really really small right now, but I'd still like to know when the earliest I could clone is so that I can determine their sex.
Hi Booy,
The rule of thumb for gardening.... of all kind.. whether it be mowing your front yard or trimming your trees, is, to never reduce a plant by more than 1/3 of its MASS during any single cloning/pruning session
An MJ plant can be cloned with only 3-4 nodes succeessfuly but this would probably require you to break the 1/3 rule... which i have done... : )
Ideally one should wait until there is secondary growth... This is approximatley day 20+ when growing from seed.
