Dude, you might think you know what you are talking about, when in fact you do not.

I have worked in Construction as an Engineer for longer then you have swung a hammer, including that plastic one you had in diapers. The Light bulb still gets the same Volts no matter if you use 480, 240, or 120.. Notice how they are multiples of 120? With the bigger voltage you run less Amps I have had 480 volt inside one of my houses for my welder and my Plasma Cutter.. Ok,, So it was in my Garage. So before you start bashing people, I think you should really try and learn what you are talking about.

220 is used in most big grow systems for a reason.


Ever wonder why some balast can be ran on either 120 or 240? That is because the big boys who run a lot of lights want to run 240 so they do not over heat the wiring and run up huge elect bills. At least it helps.

So if you can prove that running 240 or 480 is less effiecient then 120, I will tear my degree up.

And where once did you see me tell him to try and hook up a 480 volt ballast for a 250 watt light.. that would be stupid. I would not do it with out running at least (12) 1,000 watt lights.

I bet you believe Edison was the guy who invented the light bulb also, and that Bell Invented the Phone. Lets see.. Edison could not get the light bulb to work, so he hired Tesla to invent it and then took credit for it.

Bell Had nothing at all to do with the invention of the phone, he paid a patent clerk $100 to give him the guys drawing and notes so he could file for the patent. So in other words all that Bell was, was a thief. Do not believe everything they teach you in high school. Oh,, and Edison also wanted our power supply to be D/C current, while Tesla wanted it to be A/C. So Edison had a debate with him on a stage. Edison brought out dogs and cats and electricuted them to show how dangerous A/C is. Well D/C current lost because you would have to have way to many booster sub-stations to make it work.

So just because you have never seen 480 or 440 volt inside a house, does not mean it can not be done. Hell, the power lines right outside your house are running like 3,000 volts. Why do you think that they run 3,000 volt lines in a residential area?

All i know is that I own a 400 watt ballast that contains wiring for 110 volt all the way to 480. And i used that same diagram to hook it all up, with the addition of a spliced heavy duty extension cord. So I wouldn't go rambling off about how its not possible, and how much you know. Pics available to prove if need be buddy.
