with what do you bind down plants, and is it just the top you lower down by this or do really bonsai and do the branches too? |
A common misconception, the biggest thing besides the initial topping is to trim the roots monthly. Thats why most bonsais people own die after a year or two, they dont realize you have to trim the roots to keep it vigourous, aging properly, and not root bound to the point it cant get water. Ive been doing bonsais for many decades and it can be lots of fun. My favorite is a bottle tree i have had since i was a kid. But anyhow besides shaping it, the only important thing to its health is root clipping and epson salt....and whiskey... Not kidding at all. |

| | Ok guys, instead of topping or propping, why not just bathe around the plant with lights. I used 2 shop lights (4 tubes) and simply rotated the plant 90 degrees when they started to grow to the sides. Plant stayed smaller (bushy) and flowered just fine. Any input? |

Talking of which, i've been bending my flowerers and I snapped two main branches off one plant. I didn't panic and merely sellotaped them back on. They are still growing and still budding. I've peeled the tape off since and there is some sort of slow repair going on but not enough to leave the tape off. |

| | Skunkush the plants look nice. I love those slender sativa leaves! A great way to play with your plants. Another really nice tactic can be to wait until the plant is say 3' tall. At that point the stems and branches are fairly well established and thick. What you do then is top it down to 1.5' !!!
That is when you you get a "Bonsai - looking" plant. A shorter, squat plant but with thicker branches. This is best used for long-term Mothers. I'd like to do this when I start keeping Moms in 24/7. Then you prune, tie, and bend to keep her looking swell.
Cheers, mate.
