I believe that the daylight tubes are rated around 5000 Kelvin and are excellent for vegging. Switch to a bulb with a lower Kelvin rating for flowering (red spectrum bulb around 2700 kelvin)

Sounds like it would be ideal for vegging, but I was a bit confused as to what light you have, I have the same type of fixture, Mines a 2' PLL55 watt

Yours sounds like its a Pl-L 36 watt similar to mine, just a lower wattage like this I just picked up a few very unordinary bulbs for mine. One bulb is a purple plant spectrum and the other is a purple and blue, but its not an actinic bulb. Sounds like yours may be, if it is, I suggest getting a 6500k PL-L36 for vegging, because the actinic isn't the best wavelength for horticulture, great for live coral though and aquatic use though  These 36w bulbs that you speak of are about $10, even less at some vendors. For the life of me, I cannot find a T5 linear purple tube sold in the USA.

If that's all you have and can't afford a better bulb, it will suffice, since one of the tubes sounds like its a 6500k tube from what you described.

If you post the model # written on the tubes Biax base, I'd be able to help answer if it's what you should be using.

Hey thanks for your help man +rep

OK here goes.

I have 3 bulbs but i can only use 2 of them for growing.
Thought the daylight blue was 36watt but its only 24.

here is the info

interpet 24w t5 (1393) daylight blue <--1 side blue 1 side normal

fsl ydw36-hrr 36watt <--- both sides normal

interpet 55watt t5 (1397) beauty light <--- both sides normal

So out of the 3 bulbs there which 2 should i use for vegging?
Right now i got the 24watt daylight blue & fsl ydw36-hrr
and thanks again for your help,

Well the FSL YDW36-HRR I believe is this light, according to this site, it says it's 2700k -6400k So if that's indeed the light, it would be decent for growing, I was concerned it was an actinic, which I believe peaks at 420nm, which is not what is ideal.

As far as the interpet, let me tell you, finding the spec sheets at the Interpet site is like pulling your own teeth, I first went right to the source, nada there, not one download-able spec sheet or any spec sheet, then I went to their parent company; Central Garden & Pet and dead ends for the 1394 and 1397.

I found this snipet elsewhere, but there are many versions, it appears to be ok, but I can't say 100% since these are primarily aquatic tubes:

55watt t5

The Beauty Light Plus is a balanced combination of the Grolux and warm-white spectrums which achieves the same effects with one lamp, this means less light to promote algae growth

...but not much else, so I put in a product request and filled out the forms to ask both Interpet and CGP what exactly are the kelvin temps of these bulbs. Soon as they get back to me, I'll post what they tell me. :?

Hey man i cant thank you enough !!!

iam gonna go down to garden center in a few mins, gona buy the same type bulb, what should i ask for?
should i just get a few more fsl ydw36-hrr 36watts ?
or should i ask for a certain color ?

am gonna go with a dual 55watt ballast so i can get two 55watt bulbs.
just don't know what to ask for?

They finally got back to me, so as promised, here's some more info

I asked them this in regard to the tubes you have:

Good afternoon,

Could you possibly tell me the Kelvin temperature for these two Interpet tubes? I searched your site high and low and can’t for the life of me find this information, I even looked at Central Garden and Pet, which I believe is your parent companies site. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

interpet 24w t5 (1393)

interpet 55watt t5 (1397)

"Thank you for your enquiry.

The kelvin value for 1393 is 6500 - 7500 and for 1397 it is 5300 - 6600.

Yours sincerely

For t5's I would buy the 54 watt with a reflector and connect them. Theyre about $50 a piece for a 4ft t5 with a reflector.

He already has the fixtures, he just wasn't sure he could use the PL-L biax tubes he has, but since the manufacturer responded to the inquirery, they are well within the grow spectrum needed and aren't Actinic spectrums, so he doesn't need to buy anything else as what he has is good to go.
