Could adding an 250w Infared light help with growing?

I know they are primarily heat lights, but kept a far enough difference away, could it be useful? I put one up in my grow room, about 3 feet from my plants. I can bearly feel the heat on my hand at that distance. My MH is letting off around the same heat at that distance. What might the IR light do, if anything for my plants? Just thought I would ask...
