Default Root Development
What is the behaviour of the root? Does it search for water, and this is what makes them multiply and grow? or do they just grow till they can go no further?

You got it the first time. They search for food and water. If you keep them in a small pot they will search and grow into a root bound ball. You need to give them some space to grow. Its the same reason in a hydro system you have smaller roots structures as they dont need to grow and search as everything it needs its right there. When watering water evenly to avoid roots from binding to 1 side of the containers.Have a fun grow

Yes, it's to do with my dwc experiment. The guy in the grow shop said that for the main grow we need net pots (which we have brought), he also said that it can't be done on rockwool as it will absorb the water and the roots will not have to search for it, therefore not growing.

On my experiment I am doing exactly what he said not to do, and although I'm probably not getting optimum growth I've still been pleased at the growth rate and root development. The roots are growing and have covered the rockwool slab, hanging well below the level of the water.

Tons of growers use RockWool. Some of these guyz who work in hydro stores need to be examined.

Vi's right, did they have an idea of our experience? Maybe he tried it with a strain like Ice or Crystal. In my hydro system I had male plants of those varieties that were over 20 " tal and the roots never got out of the rockwool. Must have been something right to get it that tall. Of course you already know Vi's right.lol

The dwc is growing far faster than my hydro plants despite being fed exactly the same nutrients and amounts. really impressive. I don't want to run before I can walk, but after a crop of the dwc, a larger one that I'm hoping to get off the ground any day now, setbacks. I really want to grow nft. We're intending to set up a small nft unit alongside our second dwc, and compare results. I've read that using nft it is not unusual to get 5" of growth in one day.

Of course, my final accomplishment will be to set up an aero unit, but that's a few grows away.

I'll post a pic of the dwc tom'.

Okay, if roots grow to find water, why don't they stop when they find it?

Good question and I would like to see an answer. I'll look in my books and see if I can find anything to explain. Maybe light cycles have something to do with the root growth?

My veggers are on 24 hours. It honestly seems to me that roots will just keep growing till they run out of room. The best plants come from the ones planted in the ground. Maybe while in the ground the roots just keep growing till the plant reaches the end of it's life cycle.
