this fella from overgrow.com named BOG (was a breeder too from what i know) made a guide for his transplanting method... BOG transplanting... where you remove the bottom portion of the container and just slightly bury that exposed root bed into fresh soil/medium...

it avoids shock that comes along with a hasty/clumsy transplant...

mmk so no vid but a pictoral walkthrough
first you take a cup and poke a hole for drainage

then take the perlite

pour some perlite at the bottom of the cup

take your rooted clone

fill in around cutting and voila!

your ready for some handwatered hydro!

I promise I have read every page of the thread...I hope these question arent repetitive...

I love the plastic coffee container and I have a plethora of them...

Questions:
  1. Can I take clones that I have that are rooted in peat moss puck and gently rinse away puck and place in the hempy medium?
  2. I understand the value of the hole on the side and I will definetly place one there but Im just wondering if before I put in the perlite I figure out how much fluid it takes to be just below that hole and that is my standard value for watering?? or is it essential to have overflow which leads to my next question..
  3. I understand the fresh water each week so am I flushing the container weekly to push old water out the hole in the side or does the old water get absorbed???
  4. az: i also use fox farm grow n tiger, I would assume that i would leave out big bloom because its for micronutrients in soil, rite?? i also use liquid karma..in or out?? would you mind sharing your fox farm measurements w/ me??
  5. And for my future clones...I just take them as usual but instead of placing in the peat pucks just place in a smaller cup w/ perlite etc and let it rip...lol I think i need to see the roots when they come out...I may have to stay w/the peat they treat me rite!!
Thank you for your time and answers...ooooooh and something I just thought of...do you think a medium of perlite with a well established root system in the coffee container would withstand being bent into a scrog??

1- don't ditch the puck, thats unneccessary work
2- the amount of water needed to fill the res will depend on how big the container is, its shape, and how high up the hole is... test it a few times... take a measured amount of water you KNOW will be more than enough, pour in, measure how much runoff, subtract from starting amount... thats about how much you should water with when feeding
3-when flushing, yes, you want runnoff and lots of it... i'd water with 3-4 times the amount of water you'd use for nuting...
4- i'm not az nor do i use fox farm nutes, so i'll let him cover this one
5- just stick to the pucks, or make a bubble cloner... whatever way is easiest for you

and bending your plant won't really affect its root mass....

alright as far as ff goes ya no need for big bloom...i go by the rating on the label for the i personally use 2parts veg to 1 part bloom untill about the 4-5th week in flower then switch to just flower nutes....i find that plants will drop out on n in the 100%perlite..so extra doses at the first 4 weeks will do fine...i have used several pk boosters an as of now have discountined there use untill i have only a few strains an i burnt the shit outta my plants pushing some to hard....im debating on weather i wanna use the lucas fomula with gh 3 part again..this time with r/o water...idk...i'll keep it updated...peace az

alright guys I have done alot of reading on this subject, on this board and its all over the net just google "hempy bucket", in any event I have not seen one negative post about this growing method, and that is rare I have seen negative post about every other method, hydro guys say shit about soil, soil guys say shit about hydro, everyone hates the AG'rs but nobody seems to have a problem with this method, the only problem I have seen is people accepting that it really is just that simple..... now if someone could just give me some definitive answers to my quick questions I will go ahead and get a journal started for this type of grow.....

1. Container size?? I dont want the trouble of transplanting, I plan to flower my plants early and hopefully reach a max height of 2 feet, what size containers should I use, keep in mind I dont want to transplant, I assume 1gal would be enough????

2. Watering and feeding??? I have seen conflicting info in this, should you water every day?? every other day?? and should each watering be at full strength nutes, unless you are flushing for harvest etc???? And can you use soil nutes that are water soluable???

3. any potential pest inssues to prepare for ?? soil has the fungus nets, nirmal hydro seems prone to mites??? Hempy buckets???

Ok I know its a long post but if one of you could take the time to respond so I can get started I would appreciate it
