I have heard that you can tell if seeds are good or not by if they float or sink . Is that true? I'm worried, because I just put my whole seed stash in little cups to soak and most of them are floating. I will let them soak for about a day them put them between paper towels. Does any one have an answer to my question or a better idea of how I should germinate my seeds?

i have found that the ones i put in a cup that sink immediately do not germinate. I am not sure if this is 100% but im pretty sure this is true.

Yeah I've heard that, but it's good if they float. They should just sink after a day or two.

how long should I soak them for before i put them between paper towels? or will they sprout right in the water?

They will NOT sprout right in the water, you don't want to leave them in for way too long or you'd be risking mold. 24 hours should do it, then toss those that still float.

The idea of soaking them in water is to jump start the grow process by making water penetrate the seed. I wouldn't recommend soaking them for longer than a day. I also like to poke at them, fully submerging them, throughout the day.

I had some float and some sink, resulting in 100% germination.

I think seed age and storage tempertures are more important variables.
