Will Dead Roots Affect Soil And/Or Other Plants?!

Mistakenly I started off with two plants per container not knowing either plants gender (4 containers/2 plants each). Other members here on RIU have recommended keeping the males alive, instead of chopping them since their roots will rot and affect the precious females/the soil. This still isn't clear to me if it's solid advice, and any information and experience shared on this topic is much appreciated. Since my original pictures from above, I have transplanted the "paired" plants to 5 Gallon buckets. I got the bucket system idea from Global Buckets and hope it works out well. Additionally I want to know if this bucket setup is ok for growing our precious plants adequately. I've attached some recent pics below, so please leave a comment and some advice if you have any. I'm specifically interested about the last pic I attached, not sure what's up with the leaf. Great news, so far it looks like they all (8 plants)have female traits, although I understand it'll be more obvious around week 2 of flowering which I'll start soon.
