have you ever smoked weed without curing it? like just dry it out for 3-7 days then smoke it? i did this a few times and always the next day i got a really bad stuffy nose n sneezing. i thought i was allergic, but it seems if i cure it for at least a week and smoke, im fine the next day. do you know why this is? thanks oh yeah and the weed isnt moldy that i can see.

You may just want to allow for the buds to get a little bit drier. If the branch that the bud is on bends instead of breaking when you take it off it needs to dry some more.

thanks , glad to get answers from experianced people, now i need to find out how to dry out bud without it turning brown. is this 100 percent genetics or does drying have a big part? whenever i bought expensive potent bud, it was light lime green or dark green . THANKS

The trick with drying is not to be fooled by the crispy exterior after 2-3 days. The middle will be soaked and within hours of chopping off the stem it will all be wet again. Unless you have really fluffy weed or your drying room has constant flow of warm air, leave it for the full 5 days.

without curing? i never hear of this curing stuff till i came on this site, and as far as i know all the weed in the uk is not cured, and no one really knows about it.
it may be the harshness of a dryer smoke effecting your sinus glands.

actually when i smoked it, it was surprisingly smooth. im guessing it was microscopic mold spores. it was grown outdoors so thats actually probable.

Do you dry in the dark?
What is your RH?
Are you a bud fiddler when drying?
Do you have good air flow?
Do you give it full 5 days?
Temp in dry room?
do your buds touch when drying?

Try curing your personal stash, it does make a big difference. Ya right though, why cure for X weeks if it goes straight out the door when dried.

Curing sweats the buds which in return allows it to retain smell, flavor, and burn more effectively. Curing also helps to break down chlorophyll which has magnesium containing green pigments. Magnesium is responsible for the sharp and harsh taste in the back of your throat when smoking fresh flowers. Another good reason to cure your bud. Also remember to dry in a dark area the light alone if allowed to hit the flowers can also turn them brownish colors. Hope this helps could go more but this should clear things up. As far as the stuffy nose thing sounds like the mold pm or something along that line

I dry my buds by hanging them until nicely dry, then jar them. I then check my jars on a daily basis and air them if needed if they show dampness. I do this until the moisture level stabalizes. Doing this insures a even and slow drying. You may think that your buds are dry, or even over dry when you first place them into the jars, but they can fool you as the exterior will be dry and crispy, but after a day or so in the jars, upon checking them, they will suprizingly be moist again! This shows that the interior moisture is spreading out and migrating to the rest of the buds. When the desired level of moistness is achieved they are done. This usually only takes a couple of weeks to happen. The longer in the jars the smoother the smoke will become.
I cannot smoke fresh dryed buds without it affecting my breathing as uncured bud seems to be much harsher and 'raw' tasting. But after a month in the jars it is surprising how mellow and smooth the smoke becomes. I have no idea what the scientific explanation is, all I know is that it works.

I have breathing problems ( emphasima ) as well as allergies. And believe me when I say that curing is the key to smooth smoking buds.

Do not try and 'quick dry' your buds, as a slow even dry is best.
Keep the temps in your drying room on the cooler side ( 70 deg or such ) as warmer air cools it quicker.
Good air flow is important in good drying, but do not let the fans blow directly on the hanging buds as this too will dry them out too quickly. Leave room between the buds to allow for air circulation.
A steady supply of fresh air into the drying room is important as well, you want to have the moisture in the air from the drying process exchanged with fresh dry air. Failure to do this can leed to fungas problems as fungas just loves a humid enviroment.

It usually takes at least 4 to 7 days too hang dry them, then another month in the jars to stabilize them.

Works for me anyway.

Yea that's pretty much it! I know it can be hard to wait after you've waited already 2 months but it is a very important process to not skimp on. If smooth smoking is what you want you need to get all the not smooth stuff out. Ive had a lot of people also ask why is my stuff harsh when I extensively flushed and not burning clean. Well if your trying to smoke moisture it's gonna b just like burning wet leaves, instead of clean burn it is charcoaly and uneven burn pattern just as flowers in doob if not dry. I read in a book that bud cures best when the inside of the jar is at 60- 50 percent humidity. They make little humidity readers for jars but once you get used to curing it's not really needed. I do however have a dehumidifier in my office I call I just to make sure that I don't loose the right dryness to flowers. I'm sure everyone has left there jar open on a rainy day one time or another and have come back to flowers being wet so the dehumidifier set at 60 percent seems to work very well in retaining the right dry product.

I never have used a dehumidifier, but if it works for you thats great. I just open a jar, stick my finger in and feel how damp or dry they seem. After a while you just get a feel for it I guess. Some people like to have slightly damp or slightly dry. Its just personal preferance. When it reaches a point that they burn clean, as in a rolled joint, without going out all the time, then they are done.
Something that helps me keep them that way is that I have some small jars ( 1 pint ) that I keep my smoking supply in. That way I'm not opening up my quart or half gallon jars all the time and not drying the stored bud out over much. I just take a weeks worth of bud and put it into the small smoking jars and that eliminates the dreaded bottom of the jar, dry as a bone, stuff that otherwise you would have if you kept opening the larger jars every time you wanted a taste.

Also: store your jars in a cool dark place like a closet or such as light will degrade your stash. If you leave it exposed to light too long the buds turn brown and ugly.

Just my 2 cents worth
