How to tell if new/used?

is there any way to tell if a 600watt hps bulb is new/used?
i got 1 from ebay, but after a short wile i started thinking, well what if its been used for the last ?? months? how long till u replace a bulb?
if it works is it still good? i mean the box is new and all, but nothing stoping sum1 buying new bulb putting old 1 in box and selling it on e-bay?
so my queston is how will i know if a bulb is used or not?

That definatly is not true, i have never had a bulb stop working. You still have to replace them because they lose there output of lumens, Try to look closely at the bulb if you see any tinting or very light greyish areas on the top or bottom areas of the bulb then it very well could be used... I would just look at the feedback and you will see what kind of seller they are

thats the risk with ebay, but i think you would know if it was used i think.
