    Default Want Bushier Plants?

I've been discouraged by large internodal distances on some of my plants. Seems to me that more branches means more
product, eh? So I started experimenting. I tried different size pots, altering my watering schedule, fans, longer veg times,
just about anything you can think of to make my plants grow more side branches. Here's what finally worked for me.

I put newly germed seedlings into a 16 oz. solo cup for about a week. Then, here's the trick, I transplant into 4-inch pots
and leave them there for 10-14 days. What this does, I think, is to make the plant slightly rootbound. When a growing seedling
gets rootbound, guess what it does? It grows more side branches! If you watch your plants carefully you will notice that new seedlings
appear to grow very slowly at first. This is because the plant sends out the root system to grow until the roots hit the side of their
pot. After the roots bottom out, or side out, THEN they start to grow so you can see the growth. That's the point where they are TP from
the solo cup to the 4-inch pot. The 4-incher is just slightly larger than the solo cup so the roots are quickly bottomed out. Then the plant
starts really filling in. The plants receiving this treatment put on a ton of new branches as soon as they hit the 4-inch pots.

I'm running mostly indicas right now and this method has worked as stated for the Kushage, Wappa and Blueberry Gum varieties I've grown.

Anyone else tried getting plants rootbound on purpose to see what happens?

want more branches? LST, top or fim. the only way to get the other branches to grow more is by removing the apical bud because all the plant growth hormones are then re distributed to the secondary buds. this is scientifically proved.

Same principle as bonsai trees, eh? You trim and FIM and restrict the growth via using small pots.
My trick is to just let the plants get a little bit rootbound to stimulate branch growth.

Drew -- Send me a PM if you have any specific questions. I've been doing this for a while and enjoy getting my hands dirty.
