I have used a pick axe looking thingy my husband calls a matic outside...I just swing it at the pot and it jabs holes in it...if there is dirt in the pot that is...without dirt it would just fling the pot about I think.

muriatic acid is pretty mild, stinks like vinegar though nasty stuff to use, it will not dissolve plastic
at the mild concentrations you can buy hydrochloric over the counter it is just for basic cleaning

This is what the OP needs you can buy it at any DIY store it wont melt plastic either, but is does melt trolls
