ok so this has nothing to do with growing but does have to do with smoking... there snot really another place to put this so ill do it in general.

Has anyone ever used a coconut to make a bong? not just a one day one with all the white in it, but actually scraping it out and using it for perminant. Ive spent alot of time in africa and i saw a few guys using one that i think is sick and im trying to make at home, but everytime i carve out the coconut and wood glue it together, it starts to crack. Any of you carpenters have a reason? i dont think its the wood glue expanding cause i did it once without glue and it cracked.

this is what i want it to look like ..... http://www.smithsonianeducation.org/...sta/13derm.jpg
(the guy in the back is holding one)
bob can be seen smoking one of these here:

Does anyone know where to buy one in america?

also, ill be back in africa in about amonth and was gona see if i can bargin for one or buy one so ill post up if i do, but will this cause a problem with security, even if i make sure to clean it really really well?

Default hi
I know its not the best idea but maybe use some sealent mastic or some cable ties to hold it together then seal the join, other than that just roll a joint its alot easier!

i would suggest not ussing wood glue, first of all, also when does it crack. its possible that those guys just make a new one every so often.

maybe you could use gorrilla glue and put a sealent on the inside of it to stop it from cracking.

yeah i was thinking about sealing it. It cracks about a day after its glued together, before i even try it out. It doesnt crack in half, it simply develops cracks, that sometimes cause it to not be airtight. Il try epoxying it down, and il post some pics up if i can get it made right. Any more ideas would be great, and agian, any word on possibly getting busted comming back from africa with one, even a new one with no residue?

This is just a guess, but I believe they are boiled in a solution or mixture of some sort and then more than likely they are coated right away with a sealant or perhaps a wood stain sealant. What are they actually called?? I am sure the locals there have a name for them. Have you tried to wiki (wikipidia) it?

wow thats a differnt take on it. I like it. yeah ive treid googling and wiki-ing it but to no avail. I heard one local use a name, but it was in kihia wich is a local dialect that i know verry little of and is not on google. Dont know the swahili name for them or the english. Ive tried googling everything including african pipes, bongs, coconuts pipes, daga pipes, etc etc. Nothing, though they do have some neat coconut/bamboo bongs on grass city.com

if anyone comes across anything LET ME KNOW! haha home depot run tonight see if i can find some non toxic selants for these bad boys.

The wood is drying too fast and cracking. Find a wood store in your area or go on ebay and get some p.e.g.....polyetheleneglycol. People who do wood turning with green wood use it so that their wooden bowls and vases don't crack. Its good stuff.
Good luck
