Are grow bags a good alternative soil mix for growing (veging) plants.
People use these grow bags for growing tomatoes and they do really well. So are they good for growing marijuana in. I have to pot on my plants tomorow and i am thinking of trying these bags out. Not sure what the ph is as it does not give any indication on the packaging. ?
Has anyone tried this stuff before with good results.

as long as it is a decent make then you wil have no problems.

the trouble comes with the cheap grow bags that usually have to high or low a pH, contain low grade soil and come complete with an army of fungus gnats ready to break cover.lol.

in my opinion best to buy a soil mix meant specifically for cannabis.

i'm ordering bags since they give you the most soil space if you are cramming them in a small area since there is no wasted space like there is with pots. just make sure to have a drain pan under them and if they don't come with holes in the bottom... make some.

I love them, but you have to be careful. They still have the issue of the soil shrinking away from the walls. The one's I order have drainage holes on the side as well as on the bottom. When the soil shrinks a it dries, you may try to water it and it will POUR out of those side drain holes. It's a horrible design. Some duct tape wrapped around the bag will fix that, and I found it to be a necessity. Also, using some pea-gravel on the bottom will stabilize the shape of the poly-bags and aid in drainage as most have small drainage holes.

I use the ones that are black inside and white outside with the holes on the bottom and side. They work great, and you can easily cut them down to make custom sizes. I do have the problem of the soil shrinking from the sides and i never thought to use duct tape, ill have to do that next time.
